Cher, Agassi and Dr. Kevorkian are known on this side of the Atlantic too. I've never heard of Kerkorian and the Kardashians.

I only heard of Cher and the Kardashians. Who are these others ones? (No, i'm not being sarcastic. I've literally never heard of them.)

Being a celebrity doesn't mean you've done something special or are an ideal role model, it means people know who you are even if it's for all the wrong reasons.

And Kirk is and will only be a celeb to Armenians 98% of people have no idea who he is, Andre agassi is a has been and any non armo under 20 will have no idea who he is. Same goes for Dr death.

The only true celebs we have now are the kardashians ( even if we wished we had someone else) and maybe Charles Aznavour though he's not really known outside French speaking countries.

So embrace the Kardashians b/c in the end it's better to have them represent the community than no one else at all
The problem with your statement is that you're assuming that American pop culture is the be all, end all. Every region of the world had its own celebrities. Someone whose famous in China might not even be heard of in North America. Celebrities are also generational meaning while many people of young age may not have heard of Kirk Kerkorian, he is extremely well known to any educated and business oriented people of the last generation. There was a time where his name was in print in every news stand. Eva Rivas for example was recently in a publication of Maxim in Russia. So what you're referring to is regional celebrities vs global celebrities. While it is true that American media is exported to other countries while foreign media rarely has an influence in America, I think the internet and social networking will increasingly break that barrier.
