??- I certainly do not doubt that Agassi is an Assyrian name, however, it can also be a shortened form of Agassian. My neighbour in Paris was Aram Agassi, and he most certainly was an Armenian, the family had shortened the surname somtime in the 30's 40's. Same with the Papazi's (Armen and Mihran) they were Papazian's and culled the 'an' from the name.

Reason: spelling !!
well its obvious he has some Armenian in him otherwise why would Sargis Sargsian be hanging around with him so much and have him in the audience in the special box next to Agassi's coach at Wimbledon.
Agassi's father is an Armenian from Persia, from Teheran as he aseverates.
Furthermore Agassi father represented Persia in the Olympics ( I can't recall the year) as a boxer in the Persian boxing Olympic team.
It is lamentable that Agassi seems to hide under lock and key his paternal origins. He should jutt his jaw out and proclaim his hayutiun. Someone should tap his head and remind him of the venerable and ancient armenian blood flowing in his veins.
I have read that Agassi is an Armenian, yet I cannot truly say the information is from a fully trustworthy resource.
It was written there that the family had changed their original surname "Agassian" into "Agassi" when immigrated, just to get used to the life there, just to start over.
