I am a Hayastanci, I visit every year and the vast majority of my relatives live in Armenia. My brother also moved back to Armenia from the u.s. a couple of years ago and now has a family of his own there.

I suspect you left Armenia and have never been back?

Don't talk out of your @ss.

RS is correct, cheaper to keep an air defence then air force. However, I think we will see the day (especially as Armenia's economy gets larger) when Armenia has one of the top air forces in the region. Plus many of our pilots are trained in Russia, which imho has the best in the world.

Federate is right. During the Artsakh war, the Azeris exhausted their meager air force and had many losses. The Armenians wisely used their air defenses and concentrated on air defense. Even with the Azeris hiring mercenaries from Russia and Ukraine, the Armenians were able to liquidate their offensive capacity.

Air forces require constant importation of spare parts and maintenance. They are expensive to maintain and many jet fighters become obsolete as air defenses continually advance.

In fact, the Russians are developing newer technology that will soon make both tanks and jets obsolete. We got to see some of the new arms in action when Hezbollah shocked Israel in 2006. That was only a taste of what is to come.

Armenia may never have an offensive air force but they will have a much more efficient a cheaper way to defend their country.

I think after Georgian-Russian war we should easily know that strong air force is very important factor for victory

we must wake up before possible enemy attack
Because it's expensive and we won't be able to match the one Azeris have so we concentrate on strenghening our air defense which is the best in the Caucasus.
