Due to the Armenia-Turkey match and events following, there were some news reports, interviews and stuff concerning Armenia on Turkish TV channels in the last week. On one of these reports I watched, when asked an Armenian professor explained his monthly salary was $50. It was very hard for me to believe. In my country a professor earns between $2000(state university) - $4000(private university) monthly and we are also considered an undeveloped/developing country. Then I read more about Armenia's economy and from what I understand Armenia is very very poor and none of the governments or diaspora have done anything to make it better.

Also there are more and more illegal Armenian immigrants coming to Turkey to work. The situation seems to be serious.

He's somewhat right you guys... there aren't a lot of jobs available in Armenia and the pay for an average person is pathetic to be honest. In my opinion, the government is in a tight situation for the time being and cannot support the people too much. I am disappointing in what the diaspora have done. They fled from Armenia in harsh times and made something of themselves. I think more people of the diaspora need to return to Armenia and benefit the situation. I'm not saying that people don't help... but I think it would do a great thing for the economy and the people if more people in the diaspora return to Armenia.

Well, I went this summer to Armenia and did a prostitute.

I’ve been told for a while now that Armenia is full of prostitutes or hookers and that it’s getting really bad there and not the best place to go and visit and certainly not the best place to find a wife because apparently Hayastansi's arn't as "Family Orientated" to the other Armenians.
What do you guys think? Is it that bad?

Well I went to Armenian awhile back & the whole prostitute thing is on one specific street & the whole country is run by the mafia. So yes its bad but on the other hand, its a 3rd world country & its gonna take a very long time for them to fix it all up.

But with globalization, and the spread of mtv culture, of course you are going to see an attempt by the powers that be to make Armenia is degenerate as the rest of Europe and America, and they have the capital plus resources to do just that.

Yea i DONT want Armenia being like that at all.. mtv culture pfft...

people say prostitution is the oldest work in this world. concerning armenia there is prostitution now and has been also during the soviet era, but so far I've been there several times, but I've not seen of them making proposals like in the west, probably they work on 'bouche a oreille' basis. concerning me all I can say is that when I sit at a street cafe and I prefer the desert ones, I find myself fifteen minutes later surrounded by people watching me like I was a martian and of course can't tell if there are hookers among them

Armenia, along with all of the other former soviet countries are second world.

I have heard nothing but great things from anyone who has gone there this past summer, all of whom wish they can go back.

Armenia is certainly not 3rd world, anyone who tells you otherwise has an agenda or is a complete moron.

It is an industrialized nation, which had some bad luck in the late 80s and early 90s, earthquake, war, closed borders, etc. but irrespective of all this the past 8 years have brought Armenia in many aspects to the pre 1989 levels and in certain sectors are leaps and bounds ahead. Therefore Armenia is in between 1st and 2nd world, but these categorizations are bs anyway.

depends in wich country they live in
