The Armenian Word Game!

You see folks, Armenian is a very rich language. And often times we here communicate in English for obvious reasons. But non-obviously, here in the diaspora English (and other languages) are replacing Armenian as the dominant language among once Armenian speakers and this is just a sad testament to our assimilation. With this in mind, let's play a game.

The game is simple. Think of English words (and those words possibly in small phrases, not large) and try to post the Armenian equivalent of that word.

I will start us off. I don't think the Eastern and Western dialects are very problematic in this regard, despite me being a speaker of the Eastern dialect. In this way, we are improving and sharpening our understanding of Armenian.

It should be noted that Eastern Armenian is more phonetically precise than Western Armenian simply because Eastern Armenian is closer in that it is spoken the way it is written and written the way it is spoken. For example, in the word "papik" the "p" sound in that word, even though there is a letter in Western Armenian to indicate it, in terms of the spoken word it is pronounced either "b" or "p" as in "paylun".

It should be noted that Eastern Armenian is more phonetically precise than Western Armenian simply because Eastern Armenian is closer in that it is spoken the way it is written and written the way it is spoken. For example, in the word "papik" the "p" sound in that word, even though there is a letter in Western Armenian to indicate it, in terms of the spoken word it is pronounced either "b" or "p" as in "paylun".

From a Western Armenian POV, it is also spoken the way it is written and written the way it is spoken since some of the letters in Armenian are not pronounced the same way in the two dialects. For example, «Պ» is pronounced "B" while «Բ» is pronounced "P" in Western Armenian. The opposite is true for Eastern Armenians. «Պապիկ» would be pronounced "babig" in WA and "papik" in EA (as you mentioned).

Just for clarification for the future, here's how WAs pronounce some letters in the alphabet that are "disputed":

Բ - p
Պ - b
Փ - p
Դ - t
Թ - t
Տ - d
Յ - h and sometimes, y
Հ - h
Գ - k
Ք - k
Կ - g
չ - tch
ջ - tch
ճ - dj

However, I think I understand what you mean. The average Western Armenian tends to have difficulty telling apart two letters that sound the same for them but do not sound the same for Eastern Armenians. For example, most EAs can tell the difference between the two "t" sounding consonants in the Armenian alphabet simply because they pronounce them slightly different from each other (like "th" and "t"). If that's what you meant, I agree.

Փչացում would be more accurate but good! Other word I would've accepted: կաշառակերություն/կաշառակերութիւն (read kasharakerutyun in EA, gasharagerutiun in WA).

Would "ցածր դիրք" work for inferior? I know it's not a word but its more of a phrase.
