Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

    Re: AG Movie Scripts

who says that all WWI or WWII movies are like this?
    I didn't say all were !

The Armenian Genocide maybe the first genocide of the 20th century, but in no possible way is it the first major genocide in history, there are far many worse genocides that happened prior. I'm sure you know this, but some armos don't so it always helps to reiterate
I meant of the 20th century.

it maybe a hot potato, but it's like a baked potato that's been sitting under a heating lamp at wendy's for a very long time. Ever notice how people only care about it in april? (turks, americans, armenians) The movie would most likely be banned in Turkey and Azerbaijan as well, so don't count on a Turkish audience
Turks and Azeris will still see it and I understand what you mean. People don't pay attention. It depends on how we advertise and market the movie.

      See, that's the problem.

I haven't seen The Lark Farm but I have it sitting on my computer and will eventually get around to, but I've heard it's better than all the others. Of course, like every other film, it's subjective but I can imagine why... because there's some great filmmakers behind the film... and they're not all Armenian!

Listen, it's not about pain and anger. I'm all for emotion, but you should know that if a film solely relies on emotion, it's doomed. That's our problem, we have so many emotions that we're going to forget about what we're trying to do.

There's more problems out there, beyond us both. Film is a business, which is why certain films get made and others don't. It's a business. Come to Hollywood, Saco. It's not just about picking up a camera and making a film anymore. It's business.

That's ok, but there have to be lots of Armenians. I think we both agree with this.

I'm talking about expressing ourselves PROPERLY. And if your all for emotion then you probably know very well that no one other then an Armenian can properly take the role of an Armenian. I've seen many try and many, many failed. Look at the actor that played Clarence Usher in Ararat. I liked that. But if he took the role of say General Andranik or a Fedayeen, I'd stop watching the damn movie before it even began. it just doesn't work. Your into film, I'm sure you perfectly understand what I'm saying.

We'll just have to make it work then. We'll have to beat Hollywood at it's own spoilt game. And regarding me coming there ... I will eventually ! Tell the studios there to keep their cameras in a good state till I get there...

Saco, you're all about putting facts on film and sometimes that's not the best way to get your message across. Perhaps you should think about another form of expression.

Any film, whether it's about a world war or genocide, has potential to succeed regardless of "who knows about the events." It doesn't really matter whether there's an audience. If it's a good film, it's a good film. How many films are there about the Holocaust and World War II? Why does Schindler's List stand out from these lists?

Schindler's List was written by an Armenian though.

You know what I don't like the most, One-Way? When people say I've done something or think in a certain way when I've done and continue to do exactly the opposite. Which part of my posts hinted that I'm all about facts? All this time ... even in your thread, I've said that the movie SHOULDN'T be based only on facts. It really ruins an experience in many cases. The facts should be in the movie but the movie shouldn't completely be facts. I don't like it when everything is fact. We're not making a documentary, we're making a movie.

We could come up with a masterpiece and bottom line is, we don't have to stick COMPLETELY to the facts. So many things happened during the AG that we don't know about so no one can really come in our face and say this or that part of your movie never happened. We can use our imagination and make a hell of a movie. Till now I'm working on my own script and I hope to get it filmed one day. I'm sure you do too. Good luck with that.

We should try be it, based on facts or not. We can't speculate what audience we will have untill we try.

Absolutely but we shouldn't completely base the movie on facts. It doesn't allow the audience to use his/her imagination too much which isn't very good. Plus, it doesn't allow a script writer to use his/her imagination which is REALLY not good.

We need studios behind us, professional screenwriters and filmmakers. The screenplay won't be written overnight in Armenia... if it's going to work and make an impact, it's going to be written in Hollywood.
If Hollywood is involved, it will probably end up being a love story beween a turkish soldier his armenian captive.

If I have some spare time, I'll work on the turkish harem rescue scene where the hero's and heroine's infiltrate the heavily guarded fortress of the sultan and rescue the group of captives. Now... all we need is an Armenian Jackie Chan....

I shouldn't say this, because I have not seen it, but from what I've heard, "Schindler's List" stands out because it was about a German saving xxxish people. I have already mentioned that it would be good for someone to write a novel or make a film about Papa Kunzler, about any European who worked in Turkey and helped Armenians, or even about one of the "righteous" Turks - in other words, telling the story from another angle entirely. Look at the many books written by Germans (Gunter Grass, Bernhard Schlink) about the xxxish Holocaust. Granted, the "facts" need to be known to a certain extent, and relatively few people know about the first genocide of the 20th century.

I realize such a film or book will require a lot of research. Well, it can be a start.

Oh, and it needs to be unsentimental.
