To rewrite history means to ignore its lessons.

One of my favorite Jewish jokes goes something like this:
Two old friends meet on a road somewhere in Russia
and after a brief exchange one of them says to the other:
“You tell me you are going to Minsk
because you want me to believe you are going to Pinsk,
but I happen to know you are going to Minsk:
Why must you always lie to me?”

To our superpatriots I say: Patriotism and respect for human rights are not mutually exclusive concepts. Homeland is where a man is allowed to work, provide for his family, and express his views freely. I have nothing but contempt for the kind of patriot who treats free speech as an invention of the corrupt and degenerate West. That’s not patriotism but Ottomanism, Sovietism, and fascism.#armenians

    A reader writes:
“The only thing I know about Armenian history
is that once upon a time we were a great nation
and God was on our side.”

In a world where everyone is proud
to be a Turk, Kurd, Jew, or Armenian
I prefer to be a humble human being
if only because humility is a virtue
    and pride leads to arrogance.

Recycling propaganda is not just repeating hearsay evidence but parroting perjury.

It is not easy convincing barbarians that they are barbarians.

    NOTES / COMMENTS
    **********************************
Armenians from the Middle East and I
    speak a different language
    even when we speak Armenian.
We are incomprehensible to each other
especially when we understand each other.
    A paradox?
Armenian life is full of them.
    *
Nothing is as I imagined it to be.
    Imagination is a misleading faculty.
Sometimes it can even be a deadly trap.
    *
    To explain and to justify
    are not synonymous words.
    *
Like the moon we have a dark side
    clearly visible to others,
    invisible to ourselves.
    *
As a rule, enemies of the state
    are friends of the people.

Every Armenian should carry a sign with the warning: "Contradict me and make an enemy for life!"
