Re: crackpots
Armenians are smart, progressive, civilized,
compassionate, peace-loving, creative,
brilliant…as long as you agree with their own
assessment of themselves. Disagree with them and
out pops the yataghan.

FOR THE RECORD
******************************
Rumor has it that
just because I stay away
from Armenian churches and community centers
I hate Armenians.
For the record,
I don’t hate Armenians.
I just enjoy exercising my freedom of choice
which I didn’t have as a child.
And I can’t help wondering
how many Armenians today
parrot the line “I love Armenians,”
because they were taught to say so
as children.

***************************
DIALOGUE
***************************
To assert her authentic Armenian identity
and expose my status as a mongrel,
one of my gentle readers
born and raised in the shadow of Mt. Ararat,
once called me “Baliozoglu"
thus implying I cannot be an authentic Armenian
because I and my ancestors were born and raised
on Turkish soil.
*
Am I half-Turk?
I don’t know.
No Armenian does.
Only racists do,
and racists don’t even qualify as members
of the human race.
*
To search for a pure-blooded Armenian
born and raised on Turkish soil
or any other soil, including Armenian soil,
is to search for a non-existent black hat
in a dark room at midnight.
*
Question: If you had a choice between being
a Kurdoghlanian and an Avanakian,
which would you choose?
*
I am reminded of the following exchange
between a Republican presidential candidate
and a heckler:
HECKLER: My father was a Democrat,
my grandfather was a Democrat,
I am a Democrat.”
CANDIDATE: “If your father had been a jackass
and your grandfather had been a jackass,
what would you be?
HECKLER: A Republican.”

INFANTILISM
***************************
When I was a child I believed everything I was
told. I had no reason to question the authority
of my elders. If they had told me to kill and die
in the name of a cause I would have obeyed. Since
I could not think for myself I confused
subservience with wisdom. I suppose all fanatics
could plead not guilty by reason of infantilism.

ISLAMOPHOBIA
********************************
We are told Islamophobia
is racist nonsense.
What we are not told is that
no one in his right mind
could be for sharia and jihad.

Why do dogs fight?
Wrong question.
The right question is
How come dog fighting is against the law but war is not?

Re: crackpots
After urging me to change my last name, a friend delivered the following comment: “As long as you bear a Turkish surname, you admit to having been branded by them.” *And I thought: If only it were that easy to erase six centuries of subservience and all traces of Ottomanism by acquiring a new name!#

My primary aim here is not to expose our blunders
or to cover up the criminal conduct of the
perpetrators, but to emphasize the fact that we
have been and continue to be a far greater threat
to our own survival than our worst enemies.

Kachaturian in music, Zarian in literature. If the first is better known it’s because he wrote dances and lullabies. #armenians *

Re: crackpots
An Armenian leader whose number one priority
is not uniting the nation should be declared a gravedigger.
