There is no way for me to know if it's ghadeif or not without making it first (or at least taking a look at the recipe). The thing is that I couldn't find anything with that name on Google...could the spelling be different?

I think you meant Khadayif, right? After looking at the recipe, I think it could be it...the yogurt can be easily substituted by ricotta and the topping could be my grandmas idea...I'll be baking it tomorrow and will let you know if that's the one...fingers crosses (that was one of my favorite sweet dishes...)

It should be Künefe: Khadayif and cheese.

        or Cheese xxx

        or

Höshmerim, which is baked with rice flour and cheese.

jenminassian, you reminded me of something that I think is a great idea for traditional family recipes.

when my grandmother passed away, my mother scanned her family recipes that were written down into the computer and out them onto cds. for less techo inclined, they could be typed in or better even photocopied (the handwriting and notes are part of heritage i think). then she made copies of the cds for all the family members as a gift so that everyone had copies of old family recipes. we all added to that with things that we had watched being made and came up with approximate ingredients and instructions. priceless. i think all families would appreciate that even if the family elders are still living. the young generation might someday want to learn to make traditional dishes and ask someone in the family when they don’t get it quite right.

Unfortunately my grandma knew her recipes by heart. She never wrote anything down, nor used recipe books, but that is definitely a great idea...

i'm happy that you found it. now you'll have to make it a few times to get it to be like your grandmothers. i didn't remember having exactly what you described, but i did try finding it earlier (sounds yummy).

my grandmother didn't write lots of our favorites doen either. we only have what she got from someone other than her mother and family. she also learned cooking from watching. she cooked and we ate great food. but, like you, we are trying to piece together our favorites from what we all remember. when you don't know exactly what she did, put what you remember together with what your family members know and combine that with a recipe that is close to what you are trying to make. you will get it pretty close. that takes practice even if you know the exact ingredients.

kananch lobov dsvatsex ...never could get enuff of this
spas ...and good armenian matnachash, go very well

I would not change armenian food for anything, but yet i hear about so many ppl who really don't bother with homemade armenian food, they are definatly missing a lot
