Re: I wonder why there's so much hate directed towards Armenians..who don't look arme
All I know is that many Armenian women dye their hair blond. There aren't many Armenian natural blonds I've seen around here in Montreal, but I admit that it's very possible to find fair featured Armenians who look more like the common English folk around here than the rest of the community.
Anyway, the gene pool of Armenians seems to include many things. We have every kind of hair (curly, very curly, straight, wavy), most hair and eye colours (although they cover every general colour category), our skin colours can vary from dark tan to milky white, etc... We have many phenotypes, more than one that give a characteristic, exclusively Armenian look... blah blah blah. I think it's a waste of time to try to classify us with standards and categories created by other people. We can lead a functional society, why should we nitpick with these things? Besides, many, if not most Armenians are pretty racist in my opinion towards non-"whatever we are"s (a complex combination of Christian identity and our very varied range of natural physical appearance that sometimes includes at least some traits of not all too distant peoples we don't want to associate with), but if we bring this racism within our own gene pool, I can only forecast suicidal strife.

Re: I wonder why there's so much hate directed towards Armenians..who don't look arme
I don't know how it is in Iran, but can it be that the (probably, significantly) low percentage of blonds can explain the "high demand" for blonds??? The situation is different in countries with a high percentage of blonds.Originally posted by Lucin View PostYea, it is an extremely subjective matter and even though I prefer 'dark' features ( dark eyes, hair, eyebrows, etc) to colourless / insipid blond features but I really don't know why blonds attract more attention generally speaking??
In any case, there are many shades of white/clear skin, blue/green eyes and blond/red hair, and I've seen amazingly charming combinations that were far from being "insipid???" Also, there's value in how what we have is "presented" - i.e. the style. Last, but not least, the "soul" - as I define it - that animates the body matters most???

I'm sure they were jealous of your blue eyes.Originally posted by NightOwl View PostI understand what your saying, I defeitley will not attend alot of armenian events because of all the starring and nasty looks. Also the questioning, like "you must be wearing contacts cause no armenian has blue eyes"

Re: I wonder why there's so much hate directed towards Armenians..who don't look arme
There are blonds in my family, including among my own siblings, who go "unnoticed" - i.e. are, and have been, considered simply as Armenians; there are blonds in many Armenian families who go "unnoticed;" I know several blond Armenians leaving in Queens, NY who go "unnoticed;" can it be that some are reacting to your quiet apparent racist attitude?Originally posted by NightOwl View PostYeah but what about Glendale? Dont tell me their not looked down upon there? or Queens, NY?
Of course, I'm not justifying their reaction.Last edited by Siamanto; 04-14-2008, 09:04 PM.

Re: I wonder why there's so much hate directed towards Armenians..who don't look arme
Stop trying to characterize Armenians by race and appearance. And instead focus on the culture, language, and feelings that pull us towards each other. Appearance is a secondary thing, and I'm sorry but our world is still prejudice (not only Armenians), so if I see a person with blond hair and blue eyes walking down the street in Yerevan, I am going to think right a way he/she is a Westerner or at least not Armenian, at first. This feeling is the same in all cultures, all nationalities. What I am trying to say is keep appearance secondary, but focus on what REALLY make you and I Armenian. Don't let your appearance be the leading factor in your heritage.

I don't live in Glendale, but I know some of our members do. I haven't had any bad experiences there though.
