In a Greek majority island you wouldnt say otherwise, i.e convert by their own will. If Ottomans ever pursued such policy as their state policy, you wouldnt see any Christian in Balkans, Middleast and Anatolia today.

On the contorary, Ottomans saved eastern Orthodoxy from Catholics.

I love Izmir too, I have attended secondary school and a year in high school there. I lived in guzelyali and lioved it a lot.
Unfortunetly the big cities are not taken care of properly including Izmir. I have saw old Izmir picture, it is really lovely.
