Re: Historical Relations With Non-Armenians > (Small?) Bridges For Genocide Recogniti
There is the "Season of Turkey in France" going on : conferences, exhibitions, films, editing, etc, etc...
We are analyzing their activities : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...0activites.htm
We do our best to denouncing and encountering omissions, denying, etc, etc... [ http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en ]
Lately, during a conference in a French University : Octobre 9 2009 "Turkey and the European Union", by M. Cengiz Aktar, Bahçesehir University, Istanbul
>> see VIDEO at 39mn:40 : http://www.canal-u.tv/producteurs/un...e_cengiz_aktar
...a YOUNG POLISH WOMAN recalls that in Europe, she hopes that there will not be the errors and the horrors of the past such as Auschwitz. She speaks about the work of reconsiliation ("devoir de mémoire"). She asks if it is true that there is a denialist museum which shows that Turks were victims of the Armenians ?
...how do you say "Thank you" in Polish ?

With China, we have old historical relations : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...pays/chine.htm
Google's service, offered free of charge, instantly translates words, phrases, and web pages between English and over 100 other languages.
But recently we found this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlToRJbi8TQ
This can very much strengthen our ties with China ! LOL !

Re: Historical Relations With Non-Armenians > (Small?) Bridges For Genocide Recogniti
Dr Martin Bernal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Bernal in his book Black Athena: The Afroasiatic Roots of Classical Civilization. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Athena Volume ISBN 978-0-09-988780-5, chapter V The National Renaissance of Modern Egypt pp.246-250
who has already broken the glass ceiling of Eurocentrism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurocentrism wrote an very important information about the position of European powers (England, France, Austria, Prussia, Russia) regarding the National Renaissance of Modern Egypt.
These states were so afraid of this renaissance : indeed Egypt had defeated the Ottoman Empire during the Egyptian–Ottoman War (1831–1833) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1831_Egyptian-Ottoman_War
We understand that they feared that if the Egyptians were to continue advancing, an already severely weakened Ottoman Empire, would collapse and leave a power vacuum, in which Russia could possibly take advantage of. We Armenians know this so well.
This Egyptian military success was the result of an economical revival which was prepared by the political work of Muhammad Ali http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad_Ali_of_Egypt .
You can imagine that this growing economic country (in Africa) had made these colonial states mad
(and panic) . This is the principal unspoken reason that Dr Martin Bernal points out. It is most interesting.
Sources for Bernal's citation on Egypt's industrial power :
- Gran, P. (1979) Islamic Roots of Capitalism: Egypt 1760-1840. Austin: University of Texas Press.
- Abdel-Malek, A. (1969) Idéologie et renaissance nationale : l’Égypte moderne. Paris : Éditions Anthropos, 2nd edn.
As an Armenian, I sincerely thank Dr Martin Bernal for this important information.
Nil Agopoff (Paris)
PS : Here is one exemple of the political work of modernizing Egypt by personnally organizing and sending Egyptian students to Paris (4 were Armenians). Details in the following pages : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...3paris1826.htm

Re: Historical Relations With Non-Armenians > (Small?) Bridges For Genocide Recogniti
It was a great news when Hawaii State recognized the 1915 AG specially when President Obama was in Turkey : http://www.anca.org/press_releases/p....php?prid=1687
Last year I had the chance to go twice in Hawaii. It is a very pleasant place, a very nice climate and there is a historical background which I appreciated very much : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaii
Of course my first move was to see if there were any elements which can be related to Armenians ? Already there is the moving story of painter Arman Tateos Manookian (1904-1931) who committed suicide : http://www.johnseed.com/atm/article1.html
When I was in Honolulu I created this page : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...al/hawaii2.htm <<< http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en
The next research would be to see if there had been any echos of the overthrow of Queen Liliuokalani http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liliuokalani (who got prisonner in her own palace) in the Armenian contemporary press ? >> specially in the Armenian press of the Russian Empire (St Petersbourg, Moscow, Crimea).
Besides this, there are some symbolic and historical links which can be developped between Hawaii and Armenia :
- both two are native peoples which had been dispossessed from their land
- religious oecumenical relations
- the population of Hawaii is composed also with Japenese, Chineese and Philipinos people. We have some historical cultural links with these peoples :
. http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...hilippines.htm
. http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...dial/japan.htm
The next step will be to created twin relations (as there are sister cities with Armenia : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad.../jumelages.htm) between
- Byurakan Astronomical Observatory http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byurakan_Observatory
- and the one in Hawaii Big Island : http://www.ifa.hawaii.edu/mko/
all the more our valuable Byurakan Observatory is in some difficulties and need help
: http://keghart.com/node/534
It is possible to realize such a project when you have faith in it. When you go on holiday in Hawaii, please go and see Margaret and Frank Lavoie : http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/ar...508050317.html . They are downtown Honolulu : http://www.kafeeuropa.com/
Frank has done a very good job by his contribution and efforts for the recognition of the !915 AG by the Congress of Hawaii. Here is a video interview of him on a local TV : http://olelo.granicus.com/ViewSearch...20world%20home (click on "video")
Please encourage the Armenians of Hawaii to succeed the establishment of twin cities between Armenia and Hawaii.
Best regards to all. Nil (Paris)

Re: Historical Relations With Non-Armenians > (Small?) Bridges For Genocide Recogniti
Please ask your government to cancel the Turkish Season in France ...before that it becomes a fiasco : http://www.armenews.com/article.php3?id_article=53785Originally posted by Eti View PostI condemn our goverment “AK Party” (AKP) for not canceling the Turkish Season that is being held in France now.
France culture is never going to be appreciated as much as American and English, at least in Turkey.
As regarding French Culture, Armenians have
-old historical ties with it : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad.../france010.htm
- old translations of literature : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...r_traduite.htm and others for researches : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...traduite_a.htm
- from Middle Ages to nowadays :
- specially with many French democrats protesting against the extermination of Armenians : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...lissements.htm
-Armenians have given up their lives for France during the two world wars :
and in French Resistance against nazi occupation : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...rance2rest.htm and http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...resistance.htm
If "France culture is never going to be appreciated in Turkey" (it is not so important) but it is more important that it can be more appreciated in the USA :
Au revoir. Nil (Paris)

Thank you for appreciating my work : http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=enOriginally posted by Eti View PostLet me talk a bit as well: Becasue of being one of the most nationalist, arrogant and religious (catholic) nation: “The French” are one of the most Islamophobic nation of the world and prone to radical rightist politics as well, and the most Turcophobic State of European Union.
I condemn our goverment “AK Party” (AKP) for not canceling the Turkish Season that is being held in France now.

Sorry, this is not personal, I appreciate your works.
But what a peremptory cliché statement...
- France has an old tradition of Middle Eastern Studies : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...les_france.htm
- We have the chance to have "L'Institut du Monde Arabe" in Paris : http://www.imarabe.org/
- In the Louvre Museum, we are going to have one of the largest Islamic Art Collection : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...les_louvre.htm I am so eager to see this collection which will be so important and certainly so beautiful.
- The islamophobic tendency is more on a xenophobic nationalistic basis : would it be Americans, Germans or Muslims, it is the same lot for the French. It has a folkloric side of it, it does not go far as it was with the Germans ...or can we say as it is actually with the Turks ?
- In France we have a need of Islam-Christian dialogue. Civil and clerical authorities are aware of that : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...gue_france.htm
- France has an old tradition of teaching French in the Middle East http://www.lasalle-po.org/
- Our French Ministry of National Education has special ties with Turkey : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...on_turquie.htm
...still tolerating State Turkish Denial, which is a scandal.
As regarding Turkish Season in France, unfortunately there are omissions :
I am analyzing it : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...0activites.htm
Listen, as long as Turkish State does not behave as Germany did : http://www.globalarmenianheritage-ad...steturquie.htm unfortunately Turkey and Turkish people will be blamed.
In short, the Turkish President has to kneel in front of our Dzidzernakapert Memorial as Willy Brandt did in Warsaw. Then we shall have normal relations with Turkey, as Poland or Israel have now with Germany. Will it be possible one day ?

Re: Historical Relations With Non-Armenians > (Small?) Bridges For Genocide Recogniti
This was not the matter that I was talking about and you already replied:Originally posted by TomServo View PostIt is startlingly similar to Turkey.
Isn't Turkey wrestling with a headscarf law? Aren't they known to be nationalistic and Christophobic (I can't believe I just used that word)?
Turkey is still wrestling with anti-democratic affairs, that is Turkey is still in the wrestling phase, but they are not, at least they should not have been in such a SIMILAR phase.
And they are assertive about being one the most democratic state, but we are not. So I have to see The French democracy first, no racial and culturel discrimination, then they will have the right of criticizing us.
The Democracy that have been written on papers, if it can not enter the minds, what is the good of it?Last edited by Eti; 08-10-2009, 02:34 AM.
