Welcome, I guess we can say there are Armenians from almost everywhere on this forum. Great to have you, enjoy your stay, no matter how long that is.

Hello
Well I am a New Zealander who was born and bred there, my father is a New Zealander but my mother is American Armenian, basically her family escaped the genocide through palestine, then from there to France and then the United States. Basically I only found out I was part armenian two years ago. Though I believed in the armenian genocide prior to that anyway.
I have heard a few times that Turkish Nationalists are using the genocide as a tool to attempt to undermine democracy in Turkey and stop further democratic reforms that would allow free speech over the armenian genocide and other issues such as over the Kurds, etc.
I don't really know much about the genocide apart from the date and roughly how many people died, I sort of consider the Turkish governments rewriting of Turkish history sort of like Henry Tudor re writing British history, except of course re writing the history and the plight of 1.5 million Armenians and portraying them as traitors and murderors is far worse.
But all you can do is hope I guess that free speech and democracy come fully to Turkey and that the armenian genocide is finally recognised by the Turkish government and people so that the long and rocky road to reconcillation, friendship and peace can begin.
