Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

  • Another victory?

The Turkish Minister of Culture is in favour of showing "Ararat" in Turkey. Let's hope the movie's not censored to the point where it is useless. Nice victory nevertheless.....if they finally do decide to show it.

Film on Ottoman Killings to Be Shown in Turkey

    Aljazeerah.info
    Dec 29, 2003

ANKARA, 28 December 2003 - A Turkish minister yesterday said he was
in favor of allowing a controversial movie on the mass killings of
Armenians under the Ottoman Empire to be screened in the country,
but played it down as "ridiculous propaganda," Anatolia news agency
    reported.

Culture and Tourism Minister Erkan Mumcu said he welcomed a decision by
a cinema watchdog to allow the movie "Ararat" by Canadian director Atom
Egoyan, who is of Armenian descent, to be shown in Turkish theatres.

"If some people are curious, they can go and see it... According to
information I have... it is a film which is very much didactic and
can even be described as ridiculous propaganda," Mumcu said in the
southern town of Kemer, according to Anatolia.

The massacres of Armenians during World War I is one of the most
controversial episodes in Turkish history. The mass-selling daily
Hurriyet Saturday quoted Mumcu as saying that "one or two scenes of
offensive quality" had been censored in the film, which is expected
to hit the screens in mid-January.

ah xxxx them. they are going to take out the scenes of hte brides getting burned and the woman getting raped. its not going to have an effect. the only turks that will watch it will be those that believe the genocide happened and that is not going to be that many it wont have much of an effect. the important thing is that the rest of the world sees it, not the turks.

You know, I think that the rest of the world will never truly care about it as Turks might eventually come to doing. Sure, we will have sympathizers, but I don't expect the Brits or the Americans or the Indians to ever form a large organization defending our cause. It is more of a possibility in Turkey, as many would maybe like to see a certain re-instatement (or creation?) of their national dignity. A turkish population that is educated about the subject may just be the strongest opponent to the turkish government's idiotic plan of denial.

The fact that the government was so outraged about the movie was also a positive thing for us, as I believe that it enticed more turks to find out about it.

Yea Tigran, it is precisely the two scenes you mentioned that will be cut. But the story of the movie finally arriving (and of the 2 scenes being cut) is getting quite some press internationally, and in Turkey. I still believe that it's going to leave many Turks wanting to know more...

really? that is so hard 4 me 2 believe.
I don't think they r going to to cut off those parts unless they r really stupid. i mean......they can't do that. if they show the movie, they have to show all of it otherwise they r actually ashamed of it, embarrassed and know that it is all the truth.
The young turks who will watch it, i doubt that they will believe it exactly because in their schools, i doubt that they were taught the whole truth.
why is it so hard 4 me 2 believe that article? hmmm
what website did u get the article from?
          I see...

I think it's been on the NYT, the National Post (in Canada) and many many others. If you've been following ANY armenian news this past week, you would have found dozens of articles yourself.

if the censoring is for the purposes such as 'not showing naked women body and sexual intercourse' they must censor the part the girl and the boy have sex also.... if they are actually considering the rape and burning parts insulting (cause they say no such thing happened) that might be the reason... but i watched the whole movie. i downloaded it cos of curiosity.
