PARLIAMENT OF NETHERLANDS RECOGNIZES GENOCIDE OF ARMENIANS IN OTTOMAN TURKEY IN 1915
YEREVAN, DECEMBER 22. ARMINFO. The parliament of Netherlands has recognized the Genocide of Armenians in Ottoman Turkey in 1915. Minister of foreign affairs of Armenia Vardan Oskanian informed during news conference at the National Press Club Wednesday.
Answering the question on the decision of the European Commission on the beginning of negotiations with Turkey on accession to EU, the minister mentioned "we are satisfied with the situation. In its expectations from the resolution of the European Commission Armenia knew when to stop". According to the minister, Armenia expected that the Armenian clause will not be a pre-condition for the beginning of the negotiations for Turkey's accession to European Union. "That's why we positively assess the fact what happened, as today we have in our hands the decision of the European Parliament, which has clearly formulated and makes demand of Turkey to recognize the Genocide of Armenians and open the Armenian-Turkish border as soon as possible", the minister said. He expressed an opinion that on Oct 3, 2005 when the negotiations Turkey-EU begin, these two issues will be on the agenda, all the pre-conditions are created for it. According to the minister, Netherlands' recognition of the Genocide was also a fruit of formulating of the European Parliament.
