What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

Austria favorable to a special partnership for Turkey

      Tuesday June 20, 2006, Stéphane/armenews

The Austrian chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel, whose country currently chairs the European Union, estimated that the continuation of widening, in particular in Turkey, could pose problems of safety, and proposed for this country a special partnership, rather than an entry in the EU.

“the EU cannot import insecurity with new adhesions”, it declared, speaking about widening in general, in a maintenance published the Kurier daily newspaper of Sunday June 18, 2006.

But it is while speaking specifically about Turkey that it declared: “there are other options that that of the full adhesion. I am convinced that a special partnership is one of the possibilities”.

Before recognizing that the negotiations in progress were “difficult”.

In addition, while George W. Bush is awaited in Vienna for a top UE-State-Plain Wednesday, Mr. Schuessel recognized that there was between the EU and the United States “of the dissensions, for example on Guantanamo or the intrigues of the CIA in Europe”, and that these subjects “of course” would be tackled in its conversations with the American president.

Brussels goes tancer Turkey about Arménie and of Greece

        Monday June 19, 2006, Stéphane/armenews

The European Union will address to Turkey a series of reproaches in a draft report which must be made public in October or November on the state of advance of the efforts of Ankara to adhere to the EU, brings back the Turkish newspaper Cumhuriyet.

This report must be published approximately one year after the beginning of the negotiations of accession of Turkey at the EU, which took an unfavourable turn Friday, Turkish the Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan declaring that it preferred to suspend the discussions that to make certain concessions with the Republic of Cyprus.

According to sources' close to the EU, quoted by Cumhuriyet, the first draft report reproaches in Ankara its refusal to open its ports with the boats of the Republic of Cyprus. The EU requires of Ankara such a decision before being able to raise the restrictions which it imposed on the trade with the northern part (Turkish) of Cyprus.

The draft report also raises a deceleration of the political reforms, the continuation of the influence of the army in the political institutions. It recommends a greater independence of the justice and the granting of rights to the women and the minorities. It concludes that the conditions were degraded in the south-east of Turkey, where saw the Kurdish minority and where the fight began again between the forces of safety and the armed separatist elements.

Moreover, the report/ratio criticizes the current state of the relations between Ankara and Greece and Arménie, two countries which were a long time the traditional “enemies” of Turkey.

Luxembourg the Prime Minister, Jean-Claude Juncker, declared Thursday June 15 which the negotiations on the accession of Turkey should be suspended if Ankara did not open before the end of the year its ports to the boats of the Republic of Cyprus.

The tone is assembled Friday June 16, 2006 between the EU and Ankara when Erdogan ensured that the Turkish position towards the Republic of Cyprus would not change even if that were to mean the suspension of the negotiations of adhesion.

“As long as Cypriot Turkish will remain isolated, we will open neither our ports nor our airports. Such an amount of worse if the negotiations (with the EU) stop”, it declared in a speech made in front of the room of industry of Istanbul and retransmitted on television.

“We had done what we had to do (by supporting the plan of UNO). We will show goodwill towards those which will show goodwill towards us”, said Erdogan.

I would hardly characterize Austria, Denmark and South Cyprus as fanatic Christian countries nor would I agree with you that they are nothing. Those three states have higher standards of living than the vast majority of nations. The only country even remotely fanatical with regards to Christianity is the United States and even then only a portion of the population is. Mostly these countries are not fond of Muslims or Turks in particular but even if they were, many of their arguements to keep Turkey out of the EU makes sense, whcih is why in addition to the 3 countries you've listed, the Europeans in general do not support Turkeys acsension. I'm neither defending or criticizing them for feeling so, but this is how it stands as of today.

Greek Cypriots block Turkish presence in Europol

Turkey is still denying to provide ANY evidence for their fortune.

The Greek Cypriot administration used its veto card on Monday against Turkey's cooperation with the European Police Office (Europol), blocking the implementation of the Europol Convention signed between Turkey and the European Union.

To justify its veto, Greek Cyprus said that Turkey should guarantee it will cooperate with the Greek Cypriot police and should declare that it will work in coordination with Europol's office in southern Cyprus to become a part of Europol, the organization that coordinates cross-border policing and criminal investigations throughout European Union member countries.

EU sources stated that the Greek Cypriot administration's move is not surprising as Turkey has blocked the membership of Greek Cypriots in some international organizations. The sources also said that the Greek Cypriot move might be aimed at putting pressure on Turkey to immediately implement the Ankara protocol, which extends the Customs Union to the 10 new EU members (including the Greek Cypriot administration) and open its airports and harbors to the Greek Cypriots.

The Greek Cypriots are also reportedly trying to block Ankara's presence in some of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's (OSCE) subcommissions.

                dear joseph
these 3 countries are fanatic christian countries and they dont want turkey to participate in EU. but there are other countries in this union who really need turkey and like turkey. %90 percent of these countries support and help turkey without any hesitation. this is why they decided to start "eu talk with turkey". we get benefit from this union and they will continue to help us. not only they help us, but also we will trade and support them with different subject. this is what armenia could not do. we need each other joseph.

these countries are nothing against us because they cannot hinder the "talk" and "EU process" . if they are not "NOTHING" they could stop us. last year we got considerable high fund.and we will continue to get. the population of these three countries are total (roughly) 18 millions. we just have 14 millions young student (aged between 7 and 16.. look at that power and dont ignore them)

I repeat, they are not "fanatical" Christian nations. Some countries support Turkeys ascension and some do not but when I say some countries support Turkey in the EU, it is not the general population that offers support but certian political parties (I believe even in Germany over 50% do not support Turkey in the EU). Indeed Turkey has a young population and can provide a large amount of unskilled labor to Europe but with many industries relocating to very cheap countries in Asia ( endemic to the US and Western European big business), these jobs will be in places like India.

The fact that Denmark, Cyprus, Belgium, etc have smaller populations is very advantageous in terms of per capita earnings per year, standard of living, environmental concerns, over-population, etc. These countries are generally run efficiently and can be considered "lean and mean". Power does not rest with a massive populations (largely uneducated, unemployed) but with efficiency.

Actually, it only takes one member to veto Turkeys acceptance and I believe that in both France and Austria, the people will get to vote in a referendum on regarding Turkey's final acceptance. They talks have just begun and I beleive the Cyprus issue alone will be too much for the Turks to bear.

Nicosia to Increase Pressure on Ankara: Cyprus’ FM

                    22 June 2006 | 15:48 | FOCUS News Agency

Athens. The period till October 2006 is of great importance for Turkey to be convinced to apply the protocol for extending its customs union with the EU, online edition of Greek newspaper Kathimerini reports.
This is what Cyprus’ recently appointed Foreign Minister Yiorgos Lillikas stated after his meeting with his Greek counterpart Dora Bakoyannis. He expressed Nicosia’s strong position toward Ankara in the next few months and assured the pressure on the Turkish party will be increased so that it would keep its engagements and would open its ports and airfields for Cypriot planes and ships.
On her part Dora Bakoyannis expressed Greece’s support and noted that Athens and Nicosia hold the same strategic goal, the newspaper notes.
