I mean, they own the webspace and domain name, can't they just shut the server off?

That would be a start. Not sure what their problem is but it is a shame because it was a oft-visited site and linked to many others. Perhaps they are leaving the site up to show the banality of the Turkish hackers...or perhaps they are just lazy. I'm not sure.

Someone somewhere else said that it was not their webspace (i.e their server) that was hacked, but the domain name was hiijacked - transferred to another registrant presumably (though why does the email still work, does it actually work?) - and then pointed to another site. But why it should take so long for the matter to be resolved is inexplicable, at the very least it should have been possible to just disable the domain name.

You'd be surprised. It's actually a pain in the ass to go through domain transfers and redirects... I've been working with a company for 3 weeks trying to get the domains transferred.

We don't know if the e-mail works, but in theory it should. Why doesn't someone try e-mailing them, see if they get a response...

If someone has maliciously pointed the domain name to a different IP address, then why haven't they done the same thing with the email?

I don't mean transferring the domain back, I mean stopping it working - surely ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) can suspend a domain name in dispute.

Well I'm pretty sure that doing it with the e-mail is a lot more tricky. Furthermore, what would taking over the e-mail accomplish for them? I can't see how they'd benefit.

Also, not sure about what ICANN could do for them. Hopefully they will explore all options and get this resolved quickly. It's not easy being an Armenian Genocide related website out there - that's for sure...
