Turkey to decide on multibillion deal after April 24

Turkey will decide on a winner of multibillion dollar contract for the construction of its anti-missile defense system after April 24 – the day when Armenians will mark Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.

“A decision before April 24 is out of question,” Hurriyet Daily News quotes a source.

Ankara will attentively follow French and U.S. positions on the centennial events in order to make the decision.

The main contenders for a big deal are CPMIEC and Eurosam.

A defense industry source said he expected tough rivalry between French and U.S. contenders in the second half of 2015. “Both of them are surely aware that how their governments tackle the centennial will be critical for success or failure,” he said.

I was at a screening of the Orphans of the Armenian Genocide today and it was a very impressive documentary film. It told the story of the Armenian orphans who were left in the shadows of the genocide and discusses their fate along with personal stories of survivors. The film itself was impressive despite the low budget that made it possible. Besides being very educational it was also a very emotional experience. The film itself was impressive enough but what really impressed me was some of the questions that were asked by some of the audience along with the humble nature of the man who made the film and took the time to answer all the questions. This filmmaker is working on another documentary about the women of the genocide and I will not miss that one when it is ready. The Orphans of the Armenian Genocide is in some theaters and is due to be shown on many PBS stations so you can check out your PBS station to see when it will be on.

This pretty much couldn't have gone any worse for Erdogan. Once again, the egotistical pseudo emperor bites off more that he can chew. This can be added to the long list of inflated ambitions that includes taking on Israel, Syria, Egypt, and US. Hopefully now, some other world leaders can show some dignity like the French and be in Armenia on the day.

GERMAN WRITER TO PUBLISH BOOK ABOUT GERMANY'S ROLE IN ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

Jurgen Gottschlich, a foreign correspondent for German newspaper Die
Tageszeitung in Istanbul, will soon publish the "Genocide complicity:
Germany's role in the Armenian Genocide" book, News.am reports citing
Nouvelles d'Armenie.

100 years after the atrocities committed against the Armenians
Gottschield accuses Germany of its involvement in the genocide.

According to him, German officers and diplomats were well aware
of Armenians' massacres and deportations in Ottoman Turkey. The
journalist criticizes Germany for not even referring to its role in
the Armenian slaughter.

Gottschield visited and interviewed the survivors' descendants,
as well as studied the German and Turkish archives.

As a result, the documentary historical book appeared that
multilaterally examines Germany's participation in the Armenian
Genocide, as well as the controversy concerning this issue.

TURKEY PAYS $1 MILLION TO EGYPT FOR ERASING ARMENIAN GENOCIDE TRACES

The Turkish authorities had paid $1 million to the Muslim Brotherhood
of Egypt for the eradication of the documents in the country, and
which attest to the Armenian Genocide.

At the Egyptian Cabinet meeting, Democratic Jihad Party Founder
Sheikh Nabil Na'eem stated that Turkey had given over $1 million to
Egypt to destroy the documents pertaining to the Armenian Genocide,
Demokrathaber website of Turkey reported citing the Veto newspaper
of Egypt. He also accused several Muslim Brotherhood members of
eradicating these documents.

The Egyptian newspaper noted that the Armenian Genocide-related
documents, which the Muslim Brotherhood had burned, would have put
Turkey in a difficult situation at international courts.

Nabil Na'eem also insisted that Egypt should punish Turkey for the
riddance of these documents.

TURKS MOVE SULEYMAN SHAH MAUSOLEUM TO ARMENIANS' "DEATH" PATH

A new detail has come to light with respect to the Turkish army's
recent relocation of the tomb of Suleyman Shah in Syria.

The Turkish armed forces, together with the local Kurdish militants,
have transferred the remains of Suleyman Shah--the forebear of Osman I,
the founder of the Ottoman Empire--to the Eshme region on the Turkish
border, reported Agos Armenian bilingual weekly of Istanbul.

It was found out, however, that the place where the Turks have begun
building a new mausoleum for Suleyman Shah had been on the "death"
path of the Armenians in 1915; that is, it was through this area that
hundreds of thousands of Armenians were taken to their death in the
deserts of Deir ez-Zor.

ArmInfo's Survey: Belarus and France will be represented at highest level at events timed to Armenian Genocide Centennial

Most of the countries invited to the Armenian Genocide Centennial events in Yerevan have not yet responded to the invitation for not having made up their delegations to Yerevan.

Talking to ArmInfo, Ambassadors of Switzerland, Georgia, Iran, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Japan, and Germany said Yerevan's invitation is still considered by the foreign ministries of their countries to determine the composition of delegations. Nevertheless, all the diplomats assured ArmInfo that their countries will send official representatives to the events timed to the Armenian Genocide Centennial.

Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Traian Hristea told ArmInfo, the EU has not made up its delegation to the Genocide Centennial events in Yerevan. Meanwhile, Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan Andrey Sorokin said the delegation to Yerevan will be headed by Ilkka Kanerva, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The decision may be changed and the OSCE may be represented at the above events at a higher level.

Belarus has already made up its delegation. Talking to ArmInfo, Ambassador Stepan Sukhorenko said the president of Belarus will attend the events timed to the Armenian Genocide Centennial. France will also be represented at the highest level.

Russian Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Volynkin said Moscow has already made up its delegation. The diplomat did not reveal the composition of the Russian delegation, saying the country will be represented at an adequate level.

The survey revealed that some countries will not send any delegations to Turkey - the country is going to celebrate the centennial of the victory in the Gallipoli Battle on the same day - April 24. Others will send their delegations for political reasons. The diplomats say the centennials of the Armenian Genocide and the Gallipoli Battle are morally incomparable events.

To recall, UK, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have already accepted Turkey's invitation to the Gallipoli event and will be represented at the highest level. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles will attend the event.
