    Re: Film Club!

I hope everybody has the chance to check out this film by next Friday. I warn you, there are some spoilers in my review, but that should be expected considering we're all sharing our final thoughts on each film.

      Re: Film Club!

Well, either you guys are all out watching Sin Nombre or neither of you have even noticed that there is an assigned film to watch. This is the problem, because I feel like we will usually end up having one person watch the recommended film, if that.

In either case, I will post up my recommendation in exactly one week, on Friday, and that will be the film to watch. So, if you come into this thread in one week and see my recommendation, please do not bother posting your thoughts on Sin Nombre unless you post them alongside the review for my recommended film.

          Re: Film Club!

I'm going to post up my recommendation tomorrow. If you don't post up your reviews by tomorrow, don't bother. I don't want people posting up their thoughts on Sin Nombre, while we have already moved on to other films.

You guys said you wanted to play, but nobody's playing.

            Re: Film Club!

Oneway already set up a preview of the movie. I assume you know what is going on in the film, there are spoilers in my review. Watch the movie!!

Great movie. I particularly liked the flow, the movie sets itself up very well. Throughout the movie you also get a sense of what some do to get to America. The movie was well executed, there wasn't much that felt forced, or as if they were trying too hard to express something. I particularly enjoyed the scene where he swung the machette, killing the leader of his gang. There was no anger, no emotion, he did as if he had no other choice, great cinema. The girl's role was a bit of cliche, girl is rescued by bad-boy and falls in love, wants to help him even if it leads to her demise. Thankfully the male lead kinda still has his heart with his girlfriend that was just killed like two days ago... lol, so the love story that does play out is very much toned down, really he only shows her affection when she finds out her father died. You could tell he knew he was going to die, as did we, the interesting part was how he was going to die. Would it have been this pseudo image of himself that is the young recruited boy that kills him? Keeps you interested. There was a scene, where he pays for the girl to cross the river with a camera that was dear to him, the guy holds the camera with the guy in front and the girl just slightly behind him. Would have been a great shot if the guy inspecting the camera would have snapped a shot (as if to see if it works or not), would have been a great shot of something that we all knew wasn't going to last. Though I suppose it would have been anti-climactic of the whole dead gf thing.

Great movie, watch it even if past due.

              Re: Film Club!

              I agree with your thoughts.

I'm not encouraged people not to watch this film, I just don't want them to still be watching this and posting their reviews when we have already moved on.

In either case, thank you for posting your review.

No problem, that is after all what we agreed on doing. Where is ara87 btw? He skipped in line, picked a movie and hasn't watched? Come on Ara.

Anyway, awaiting next movie choice by Oneway.

                  Re: Film Club!

I choose The Spirit of the Beehive (1973), which you all need to watch and post your reviews by Friday, November 5.

I'm choosing this film because a friend of mine really, really loved it and I usually agree with his opinion. It's also a film I've been meaning to see for months but kept putting it off, so it gives me a chance to finally see it. It should also be relatively easy to find considering it's available for streaming on Netflix.

                    Re: Film Club!

I'm not going to watch this film, at least for now.

I'm busy with school and since nobody is playing along, I don't see the need for going out of my way and watching it for no reason.

So, this thread is dead until somebody revives it again.

                      Re: Film Club!

Okay, Siggie, held a knife to my throat and threatened to kill me unless I started this back up. So, this is the deal, and if nobody plays along then it's time to quit this for good.

You all now have two weeks to watch a given film. So, my film is still on the table and you have until Friday, November 19 to watch the film. I'm giving you guys more than two weeks for this one just so people can snap back to reality. From there on, you will have two weeks to watch a film and post your reviews.

                      Go!
