Any music, in my opinion, that diverts peoples priorities from anything productive is bad. Rap is not the only one either. I am against pop music as well. We have entire age groups of young girls between the ages of twelve to fifteen that are being raised by the lyrics presented by boybands and the like instilling in their minds that romantic relationships, breaking up, having sex, et cetera are more important than other aspects of life. We end with generations of young females that view life as if it were a teen movie. Phuck that too. And this is only social influences; let us not start with the current trends in heavy metal that promote plagiarizing and regression and undeserved, superficial fame for the sake of fame.

Nice post Dusken. I couldn't agree with you more.

        HAHAHAHA "Oedpal relationships"

Crimson Glow is basically saying he wants rappers to do in one song what Malcolm X, MLK, and others couldn't do during their lifetimes.

That's the equavilent to saying "you smell really nice, today" when someone is feeling down.
The original question to this thread asks, "Is rap a bad influence?" not "Does rap provide negative messages?"

Obviously, most rap songs are negative in their nature.

I mean some rappers have lead such a negative and worse live than ours, that they feel the need to explain it to us throught their music. So what? Is that gonna hurt you in any way? No.

However, some people are just too stupid and let the songs really get to them that they carry on a certain persona on them that's not even genuine or not even the lifestyles they lead. What can I say?

All I'm saying is, rap DOESN'T NECCESARILY HAVE TO INFLUENCE YOU in any way. Whether it's positive and / or negative.

Is rap a bad influence for me. No. Because I don't let it's messages get to me. I enjoy it like when I listen to classical, trance, alternative, jazz, and middle eastern music. I just love it for the music. Now I can't say the same for everyone, but all I gotta say is what I said before....

Rap won't be a bad influence, if you don't let it influence you. You can enjoy the track/album like crazy. Bump it in your car. Repeat the lyrics they say in the song. As long as you don't act out on what the song portrays or what the lyrics say...... then it hasn't influenced you in any way.

Making rap understandeable to white people is the way to go.

I do not shake my ass. But if it does happen, I am telling you now that it will be a complete accident.
