  • Rate The Last Book You Read!

This thread is an all purpose thread for the last book that you have read. No, magazines, publications, newspapers, articles, etc., do not qualify as books. And since I know there is a paucity of bookworms in this era on this planet, let alone this forum, I am not holding my breath on the page count of this thread. Right now I have insufficient time but I will in a later post expand upon the few books I have read over the course of the last few months.

    They are:

The Automatic Millionaire by David Bach
Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Freidrich Nietzsche
When Will Jesus Bring the Porkchops by George Carlin
Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu
    Achkerov kute.

This book has to be a must read by all. It's so incredibly easy to read that I finished it in an hour. It's very fast paced, and it gets the message home really well. The book may sound like it's one of those automatic get rich quick schemes, but it's not. Inside, David Bach argues over and over that the key to wealth is not instantaneous, but over time. The message is so simple and so easy that you can't help but wonder "Damn, it's so obvious!" He basically expounds on the idea of saving, and investing, but suited to everyone. You do not have to be a financial guru or a wizard, nor must you understand complex finances or market forces to invest and be a millionaire. In the book, his example is a couple, Jim and Sue McIntyre, who were very mild-mannered and simple in appearance but were millionaires.

The idea that Bach expands upon is that you have to make the process of wealth planning, "automatic". In other words, when you open an account you should adjust for it to automatically deduct a certain amount from your check. The idea is to "pay yourself first". No matter what, bills, expenses, and debts always rear their ugly heads. You keep thinking "Okay, maybe have this I can finally save". But no, the concept is that no matter what, you must pay yourself first. So now that money is automatically deducted from your check, you do not have to worry and in time, it grows, with the power of composite interest. As Jim said, "Understand we're not talking about huge amounts of money. At the beginning, I was having less than fifty dollars a month deducted from my paycheck. But over time it really adds up".
