All your requirements are natural on a MAC.
One issue ... make sure if you already have invested in "office" and "photoshop" that they have the Mac version included in the DVD. Newer versions carry both systems software.

If the psu is fine and the same for the case and the cd/dvd drive and the rest, and it is a standard atx-size case and the psu is 300w or better then you could get a new motherboard/cpu/memory and disk drive. That won't cost more than $300/£200 if you are not intending to play games on it.
150GB disk drive is tiny - I don't think you could even buy a new PC with one. You might as well get 500GB.Last edited by bell-the-cat; 01-09-2009, 11:54 AM.Plenipotentiary meow!

Sure, if you are willing to pay the $$$$, Macs will do a lot of the things PCs do very easily. But if you are a poor student, a PC might serve you much better giving you many more software choices (and "finding" of software abilities) than to be stuck with what you can get on a Mac.this post = teh win.

I had macs for over 20 years and made a good living out of them .. many times I had bought PCs with open mind and had nothing but trouble. In my view, pcs are like lemon cars always something going wrong with them.

Re: Advice on new computers.
You can't compare PCs from 10 years ago to now. They are far more reliable than the old windows 95/98 days. XP is rock solid. I have not used Vista so I don't know but from everything I have heard, it's a great OS (other than being a resource hog out of the box -- most of which can be turned off) ... Windows 7 seems very promising as well. The basic fact of the matter still is, there are far far faaaaaaaaaaaar more software choices available for PCs than for Macs.
Furthermore, if one were to "borrow" software from friends, or others, it would be much much easier to do with a PC than with a Mac.
As far as Safari, I have heard of many problems and complaints ... seems like firefox is a better choice on Macs. Hopefully they will release the Mac version of Chrome soon as unfortunately, you can't currently run the fastest (and in my opinion the best) browser on a Mac YET... but soon enough.

Re: Advice on new computers.
The whole PC vs Mac debate has been pointless since Macs started using intel chips. Now a "PC" can run the mac OS and a mac can run windows. So get whatever's in your budget, then load whatever OS you feel like using, maybe even linux.

New Computers: They are not new for long
As for Apple they are twice as expensive and they developed software into their computers so that they can kill people's computers via the internet. In summary this happened to me, the only place Steve Jobs belongs is in Republican Party. They would love him there and he suits them.Last edited by hipeter924; 01-13-2009, 03:24 PM.
