Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

All your requirements are natural on a MAC.
One issue ... make sure if you already have invested in "office" and "photoshop" that they have the Mac version included in the DVD. Newer versions carry both systems software.

What do you mean by "shorted". If all that's wrong with it is a dead power supply then get a new power supply.
If the psu is fine and the same for the case and the cd/dvd drive and the rest, and it is a standard atx-size case and the psu is 300w or better then you could get a new motherboard/cpu/memory and disk drive. That won't cost more than $300/£200 if you are not intending to play games on it.

150GB disk drive is tiny - I don't think you could even buy a new PC with one. You might as well get 500GB.

One thing to keep in mind is not only are MACs very expensive, but also that you will have to shell big bucks for the software ... have you checked how much photoshop costs? It's a lot easier to "find" software for PCs. Even if you don't want to do anything illegal, which of course you shouldn't , there are MANY more free choices available for PCs than for Macs.

Sure, if you are willing to pay the $$$$, Macs will do a lot of the things PCs do very easily. But if you are a poor student, a PC might serve you much better giving you many more software choices (and "finding" of software abilities) than to be stuck with what you can get on a Mac.

Sip, I hate to tell you I do not agree with you. The initial hardware is probably about 1/3 more expensive but when it comes to softwares you will be better off with a Mac. "Microsoft Office" same price on a Mac or pc some discounts if you are a student or better yet you can use Mac's $99 "office" and can open and save as Microsoft office file formats. "The internet" Safari one of the fastest and most stable browsers virus free since introduction for over 15 years. "Editing movies" free will all macs ... "music and editing" free with all macs "photoshop" same price on both systems or you can by some cheap packages for either systems ... if going that route, I would recommend "Adobe Elements" at around $100 as powerful as Photoshop with few missing options that most people don't use.

I had macs for over 20 years and made a good living out of them .. many times I had bought PCs with open mind and had nothing but trouble. In my view, pcs are like lemon cars always something going wrong with them.

              Re: Advice on new computers.

You can't compare PCs from 10 years ago to now. They are far more reliable than the old windows 95/98 days. XP is rock solid. I have not used Vista so I don't know but from everything I have heard, it's a great OS (other than being a resource hog out of the box -- most of which can be turned off) ... Windows 7 seems very promising as well. The basic fact of the matter still is, there are far far faaaaaaaaaaaar more software choices available for PCs than for Macs.

Furthermore, if one were to "borrow" software from friends, or others, it would be much much easier to do with a PC than with a Mac.

As far as Safari, I have heard of many problems and complaints ... seems like firefox is a better choice on Macs. Hopefully they will release the Mac version of Chrome soon as unfortunately, you can't currently run the fastest (and in my opinion the best) browser on a Mac YET ... but soon enough.

By shorted I mean, I smelled burning plastic, and when I got to my room there was smoke coming from my motherboard. The power supply is fried, and some other things inside melted. Even if it is fixable, I think I'll just use this as an excuse so i won't feel guilty about buying a new computer. Yeah, i know 150gb is small, but I figured if i was operating off of a 69.5gb, that it would do nice, but that's just the minimum, I'd prefer 500+

Well I have those programs for both mac(I'm on my sister's mac book right now) and pc, actually one of the reasons I like pc's better is b/c the way those programs are laid out on them. As far as photoshop goes, I've spoken with mac geniuses and there's no difference between whether it's on a pc or mac, excluding appearance. I also have a bunch of pc only programs that would go to waste. Anyways one day I plan to get adobe audition, and that's pc only I believe, so a mac is out of the question

                    Re: Advice on new computers.

The whole PC vs Mac debate has been pointless since Macs started using intel chips. Now a "PC" can run the mac OS and a mac can run windows. So get whatever's in your budget, then load whatever OS you feel like using, maybe even linux.

New Computers: They are not new for long

As for Apple they are twice as expensive and they developed software into their computers so that they can kill people's computers via the internet. In summary this happened to me, the only place Steve Jobs belongs is in Republican Party. They would love him there and he suits them.
