So I shorted my computer somehow and am in need of a new one. Right now, I'm looking for something with 2+ gigs of ram, and 150+gb harddrive. I think i'd like a better than a mac as well, I'm willing to spend 400-800ish.... Any advice?

Re: Advice on new computers.
The standard question to ask is what do you do (or plan to do) with your computer?
Desktop or Laptop? For a laptop, what size or how about even a mini-netbook type thing?
Do you play any 3d games? Is that important?
Do you plan to use your PC as a media center to watch movies and TV?
Do you have any special software you want to be able to run?
What kinds of connections do you need?this post = teh win.

Re: Advice on new computers.
Whether you by a laptop or desktop, do yourself a favor and buy an Apple. Even if it's used, you are better off...they don't get viruses.
Even with the best anti-virus software installed, every PC I've owned craped out after a couple of years.Last edited by crusader1492; 01-06-2009, 04:45 PM.

Re: Advice on new computers.
Crusader, perhaps it's more about what you've done with your computer?
I haven't had any problems w/ pc + trend micro virus protection for 5 years.

Re: Advice on new computers.
It wouldn't be much of a "favor" if he likes to play a lot of games (real games). Before recommending, first find out what he intends to do with itOriginally posted by crusader1492 View Post... do yourself a favor and buy an Apple.
Apple is faaaaaaaaar from being the solution to everything.

Re: Advice on new computers.
Games don't matter to me that much, I mainly use a computer for anything related to Microsoft Office, the internet, editing movies, music, and photoshop. Previously i was running on a crappy compaq (1.5g of ram, 69.5 hard drive) that I bought myself in 9th grade, so anything is pretty much better. I'm surprised it lasted this long.
And while conventional wisdom says I should get a mac, I just happen to hate them, don't ask me why cause idk why, I just do
