Well it is a matter of opinion. There is nothing objective about that question. Just pick some big problem and write about it because you instructor probably will not be grading papers based on who's problem is bigger.
However I have always thought that a big problem in this world is teachers giving students stupid assignments. Ridiculous assignments, first of all take up the students precious time so they cannot read John Steinbeck or Henry Miller. So they lose culture; that means a decline in quality of literature, music, art, etc. Then, in the case of this assignment, it teaches the youth to think in black and white terms and prevent them from fully understanding action and consequence. They will think that all aspects of life are broken up into freestanding categories and that there is always a superlative issue or category. This makes them delluded and makes them stubbornly ignorant. People like this will have a hard time forming meaningful relationships for the rest of their lives because they eventually become intolerable even from the point of view of a person who is just like them. These people will piss off everyone around them (at the work place, on the road, in a restaurant...) with their ridiculousness even though everyone else is ridiculous as well. They probably will get married to someone but they will also get divorced. And maybe they'll have kids and those kids will be f!cked up because mommy and daddy will be f!cked up. Now a couple of things can happen with these kids: either they will grow up and be stupid and pass on the stupidity and dellusion and anger to everyone else or the will become burglars and serial killers. And most likely will suck the life out of whatever welfare state they are living under.Last edited by Arvestaked; 12-09-2003, 12:43 PM.
