My post in the christmas tree thread sparked this idea. What Armenian traditions does your family participate in? I'm talking about a death in the family for example. Do you not have a christmas tree that year, etc, etc, etc.

I havent really had a close family death, so I'll pass on that.
but there's lots of other armo traditions.
like being a vegan for the 40 days preceding easter.
and eating fish on christmas eve and easter eve.
and going to church on "diarentarach", I dunno what its called in English... but it's the day in february when you get to light your candle/lantern in the church and bring it all the way home, so that your house gets reblessed every year and stuffI think it's some pagan thing that we still have on the christian calendar!
and then there's visiting people's houses EVERY freakin zadig. oh god, I used to hate that when i was little and my parents used to drag me with them, thank god now I get to choose whether or not to accompany.
oh there's sourp hagop and sourp sarkis etc... and how you get invited to Hagop's or sarkis's house where pretty luxurious celebrations take place (luxurious for armos= lots of food including sarma and kufteh and oghee)
and then .. I don't remember any more... but I'm sure theres plenty more.
so i'll keep u updated!Last edited by jahannam; 12-23-2003, 01:38 AM.

Traditions in my family; my mom and my sister always put up the tree and decorations together i sit and whach tv. My dad takes me shopping for my Christmas present, anything i want!!!! My aunty comes over and gives me Money or Jewlery!!!! Presents are usually given on New years for our family but sometimes we just cant wait! especially me! My mom makes Pasus Dolma (the Dolma that is wrapped with the white stuff instead of the green and that has different stuff in it) every year for us and our close relatives, we have a big family dinner on New years eve we are all at the table untill midnight and everyone drinks, me and my dad take shots together!
