Given the fact that i've been havin an array of strange dreams lately, I thought I would start a dream thread where we can post our dreams and decipher them with psychological mumbo jumbo to see if they mean anything.

    1st dream

I'm veiwing an an older indian looking man in his 30s who is supposed to be me. He's/I'm sitting under a lone tree with green leaves, in a field of high yellow grass. His/My legs are stretched out striaght, and i have no shirt on. In the distance I see my brother as a much younger version of himself, and he is dancing or playing. As I watch him I begin to realize that my surroundings are not real, and that I am actually in hell, or at the cusp of where hell meets earth. As I begin to realize this however, a dark green-black snake lowers out of the tree an hisses at the danger inching toward me, and it retreats, and everything looks dandy again.

    2nd dream

I'm in a a grand lobby of a building of some sort, outside is an new york-esq scene, and it is grey and lightly raining. As I'm readying to leave the building, I notice none other than Hillary Clinton(yeah go ahead and laugh). I stop exchange pleasantries and begin to leave when I realize I could probably get an autograpgh or picture. As I turn around I see Hillary, but I also see Bill and a group of older politicians and I thought, how amazing I could get a picture with all of them. I walk back up to Hillary and ask for a picture or autograph, but she cuts me off before I can even ask and says "off course." I begin to walk over the group of older politicians, and she says "no," and grabs my arm and walks me a little bit away to an almost throne like chair where bill is sitting. She then sits on his left hand arm rest and leans on him, posing for the picture we are about to take. They both look younger and she is actually in a dress. I end up behind them somewhat in the middle thinking "where's chelsea" and then I wake up.

You are yearning for the '90s (Clinton Administration, the WTC was still in New York, and the Bush creature had not yet arrived on the scene).

My thoughts on the first one, I think you attained a quasi-form of enlightenment in which you peer into the actual state of reality as the Buddha would, however, as you could only sustain this briefly, taking orders from the snake that there is danger, and not understanding the triviality of danger, you were limited and fated to return to your every day self and its casual ignorance for these things.

Dreams in their radically unstable contexts don't mean as much as we like to think, you're just in a state of mind where there is less regard for happenings that don't fit in the patterns we're used to when we perceive the world in a waken state.

Tt is the state of subjective perception you attain in them that could mean something important for you, perhaps as lessons or reminders. This is my approach to dreams.

For example two nights ago I had a dream where for once, everyone in my family was prone to fatal diseases, even if they were not sick yet. I could sense that they, or I could get sick very prompty and die. As such, my intuitions about stability in life were reversed during this dreaming session. I had a peculiar sense for the fragility of life, how quick it can be to lose those we've known so long. Reality felt as though it was in a constant state of war, in a cosmic sense and not a military one. The only peace to be found was in acceptance of this reality, which readies you for your own death and those of others.

When I woke up, I kept this feeling and thinking from my dream and watched my more conventional approach in considering my mother and grandmother who were talking downstairs while I was still in bed. I realized, for better or for worse, that I am really really desensitized towards life most of the time, until some real danger arises, not realizing that this danger, or threat of death, is eternally present.

I also believe that certain acts or experiences we partake in priorly to a dream during our waken experience will influence how our dream plays out. You can notice this especially when you see a dream that was simply extremely out of the ordinary compared to confines your dreams normally play in. If you can remember what you had done in the past few days before a dream that breaches certain parameters of what you ordinarily dream about, you might find some kind of cue recently added in your longterm memory of something qualitatively different, new or unusual as an experience.

For example, 3 or 4 nights ago, I had this dream where I was a white trash teen who lived in some small (but not very small) American town of no significance. You know, the type with maybe a few very commercial chain groceries or general stores and you have all your white trash folk in there, buying ordinary things. Also, it felt like the 90s, even though people had cell phones, I guess certain towns just feel like they change slower than the cities.

My character was pretty much a typical one for the place and age, had a circle of some lowlife and ordinary friends. I was a decent guy, but for some reason I shot and killed someone I had a disagreement with at the general store. I was nervous because I knew I'd get busted, and the cops were on to me right away. They were pretty close to catching me, at some point they were right behind me chasing me. Somehow I got free from them. I think I may have killed them too, I'm not sure.

I made for this abandoned mill type structure that my junky friend lived in to hide. When I got there I talked to him, he was short, scrawny, he lived in that place but had a computer there. Anyway, it was otherwise very sleezy and an odd place. We talked for a while but then I decided to kill him to, for no good reason. I hung him up in this odd way from the high ceiling of the building.

                Soon after I woke up.

Now, I'm not going crazy here trying to find a significant parallel between the role I played in this dream and my actual life, I consider it like I popped a dvd or video cassette in and watched a movie, except it felt pretty damn real as I was the main character. Now... Why did I dream of this? Well, watching the movie Trainspotting the day before might've had something to do with it. I don't usually watch movies like that anymore and it was very out of the ordinary for me to do so, and for me to watch armed characters like Begbie and even considering his hairtrigger-like temper, was very out of the ordinary. By contrast, my friend living in a dingy ol abandoned mill I'd say was based on Tommy in this movie, a heroin addict who lived in a filthy apartment. My character was similar to Mark in many ways, except for the killing part, which I think came from Begbie.

In my dream however, I realized that I was in hell all on my own, and it was when realized that, that the snake came to save(?) me. So but basically I was on the verge of realizing something, but chose ignorance for bliss.

I understand that, but I haven't read any of the teachings of the Buddha in a long time, and I pay much more attention to the Clinton during the election, and never once dreamed of them, which is why they don't make sense to me. I mean the first one does now, but Hillary, Bill an a group of old politicians..? How is that supposed to tell me anything. I guess tom is right on that one

                    Re: Dreams

In terms of the content you actually see in a dream, you can't necessarily make a linear link with it to things you've experienced recently.

Anyway, I find that in neither of your dreams was there an obvious instance of influence from a recent experience in a waken state, I meant to point out that in the first one, you picked the "blue pill" and woke up. For the second dream, you just recalled everything you knew about the Clintons for no apparent reason, and because of your extended knowledge about these political characters. The freeordering of rules for events, social laws and physics that is typical of dream states took over your semantic knowledge of the political figures and engaged you with them in new ways. Still fun though.
