- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

Re: Nothing wakes you up in the morning.....

Mmkay, to me, "it's not just a car" means I love that specific car, and can't stand the thought of it being totaled, not due to age, but because of someone elses careless driving. One way or another, I'll be fine as far as transportation. Like today, my sister will be dropping me off to work, and a buddy will be picking me up after. And I'm actually thinking about throwing 2 of my spare wheels on the car this weekend, because I'm pretty sure it's still drivable. The tires on there right now just won't hold air due to the wheels being cracked/bent.

As to fault, there was a giant skid mark from where the wheels locked, and the state trooper that showed up didn't give me a ticket (even though he knew I must have been going well over the 45 MPH construction zone speed limit, but then again, so was everybody; such is the way of Chicagoland area interstate driving), so there's nothing citing me at fault for anything. There was obviously a mechanical failure somewhere since this car has ABS, yet the wheels locked. Had I known that was going to happen, I would have pumped the brakes like you're supposed to do on non-ABS cars. But since I expected the ABS to kick in, I just planted my foot. I did not see anything other than the type of vehicle it was. Luckily, I'm into cars, so I knew what kind and year it was. But there was absolutely no way to catch plates with what transpired.

Anyway, it's over now. I just have to wait to see what the insurance company is going to say, and decide on the most logical option from there.

Hope they don't low ball you... that car was worth more to you than the crappy blue book values.

It was. But at this point, so long as they give me enough to play with on another car, I'll live. Of course, I'm getting ahead of myself. The thing hasn't been totaled yet. We'll see what they say.

I don't think it can be marked as anyone's fault without evidence and witnesses. But something must have caused the accident ... either sleepiness, drowsiness, driving under influence, blown tire, etc etc or someone else doing something stupid.

My hope is that whatever they mark it as, it won't be an "at fault" thing causing his insurance rates to go up. That's all. Sometimes $hit happens with no real fault of anyone (like natural disasters or hitting an animal or something that jumps in front of you). I've never had to deal with anything like this before so I don't know what the options really are.

About cars, sure to some of us our cars are very special ... but it's still just a car and crap like this does happen from time to time. We just have to live with it. It is definitely stressful and it can cause different levels of inconvenience to different people. But after all is said and done, personal injuries are faaaaaaaaaaar more complicated and disasterous to deal with than property damage (usually).
              this post = teh win.

Re: Nothing wakes you up in the morning.....

The adjuster called me today and said they're going to total it!!! She estimated the damage at $6,700??? I'm going to call and fight her on that tomorrow, because that's complete bullsh*t! The other side was estimated at $3k, and needs a good portion of the same things (just doesn't look nearly as bad). Two new door skins, a front fender, etc. I find it very hard to believe that there's another $3,700 in damage on this side. That's more than DOUBLE!! I don't know if it's possible, but I'm going to tell her I don't need the wheels replaced, I have many spares. I don't need anything non-essential replaced (the door skins, fender, bumper). Just make sure it drives straight (no frame or suspension damage, which I highly doubt it has), and give me whatever the maximum is prior to totaling the car.

As for pulling things off, I'll be very limited on that since the value of the car was established with what's on the car right now. I asked to make sure it would be OK that I take the non-stock items, and replace them with the stock pieces (my black headlights, the GTP badge on the grille, the red top Optima battery, etc), so those are a go. Going beyond that...I don't want to deduct from what pathetic price they're going to give me.

I'm just really sick to my stomach right now. I can't think straight. I don't have time to go look for another car, much less have the money for one after they deduct for the damage on the other side that I never fixed. She said after deducting for mileage (134k), the car is valued at $6,050. She's going to talk to their salvage yard tomorrow before she gives me the final settlement price (not sure what for). I'd probably kill someone right now if I didn't feel so deflated from all this.

Re: Nothing wakes you up in the morning.....

Ok, guys. Interesting turn of events. I don't know why, or how, but now they're saying I CAN buy it back. I called the inspector's manager, and basically explained how this was going to utterly screw me over right now, and how I can't understand why other alternatives weren't discussed (used parts, take some of the cosmetic repairs off the bill and I'll fix them myself, etc). He said to let him look at the case and get familiar with what's happened, and he'll give me a call back.

Well, instead of him calling me back, the same inspector that looked at my car called, telling me I can retain the vehicle. I was a bit stunned, but I wasn't going to push my luck and inquire too much into why, or how. So this is the break down right now:

not sure what the starting value was
                  - $960 for previous damage
                  - $900 to buy back car (seems a bit expensive, but oh well)
                  - $100 deductible
                  -$1450 left on loan
=$2100 + I get to keep the car

At least this way I get to keep the car, and have a few bucks to take care of anything that's messed up in the suspension. Only things left that I want to ask about tomorrow is how having them pay off the rest of my loan affects my credit, if at all, and as a salvage title car, can it still be insured like a normal car.

Re: Nothing wakes you up in the morning.....

Well, I talked to the adjuster, as well as my agent, and they both said the car will still be perfectly legal, and insurable, though I can only get liability till it's repaired, and the agent has seen that it's fixed. Right now, I don't care. So long as she drives OK, and will get me around for at least a few weeks, that will be just fine with me. Tomorrow night will be the big night, as I'm dropping off the rental in the morning, and driving my car back home (signed the "we are not responsible for what happens from here on out" form, and took my key from the dealer). I went to put the wheels on tonight. While the front one was off, I looked at the outer tie rod, control arms, etc, and everything seemed OK. After tightening the replacement wheel down, I tried wiggling the tire up and down, and left and right, and then turning the steering wheel. There seemed to be no play, so I'm fairly confident she's fine. I couldn't break the freaking lug nuts loose on the rear wheel, so I may just throw a few bucks at the shop to do that for me tomorrow, and then off I go. I double checked with my agent that towing will still be covered/reimbursed if something happens on the way home, and he said yes, so everything is a go. One way or another, she's coming home with me tomorrow night.

I just want this thing to safely and reliably run, so I don't have to worry about renting a car out of my pocket, and can take my time with the truly ugly part; negotiating the settlement.
