The Turkish people have absorbed into their formation various ethnicities including a good deal of Armenians, Greeks and others hence some of the parallels in terms of appearance. However, a good deal of Armenians of Istanbul who still live in Turkey, note that overall you can tell a difference between a Turk and an Armenian in terms of appearance. Only one who is not familiar with these differences and tends to generalize would reach such a wrong conclusion. And once again appearance is not everything since the cultural differences are just as noteworthy in this regard.
Caucasoid and Europid are different, while indeed Europeans fall in the range of Caucasoid, so do for example South Asians, Arabs, Afghans, etc.
Armenians, in general, resemble over Northern Near Easterners being an Ancient Near Eastern people, that said there was intermarried with Russians, Bulgarians, Georgians, Greeks, Persians even a small amount of Mongol.
Most Armenians belong as far as I can see to the Armenoid example of the Caucasoid grouping.

Now even your blond Armenians, according to cranial anthropometry are Armenoid, thus the "Armenian look".

The only people in Europe who do look like Armenians are Greeks (from Anatolia originally), Southern Italians (was colonized by Phoenicia, then Greece, then way later Italians and they all mixed), a very small amount of Spaniards (those regions where Moors had to assimilate to stay alive), other than that, if you showed an Englishman next to an Armenian, even a blond one, you'd see a distinct difference.

Many people have been defined as Caucasoid/White, Maoris at a stage (Pacific Islander), Irish are a stage were not seen as white, Mexicans/Native Americans were once labeled white in parts (and then subsequently massacring us would just be put across as white frontier deaths). Many people frown on the word Caucasian/Caucasoid to define Europeans and South Asians

Agree. Combined blends of genetic and ethnic influences (in the majority of existing ethnic groups under the sun) = inevitable. If you trace back history and note that different empires acquire land, lost it over wars and to tyrants, diasporas, etc. one can infer population and cultural imprints were left.
Plus, territories and borders)were re-mapped multiple times, and this is a pattern that repeated itself. All the while, people interbred throughout generations.
Unless the geography is somewhat isolated.

Some very valid points Pedro. I want to add that Armenoid with its distinctive features can be regarded as a variant of Dinarid (and has been pointed out by several anthropologists). Furthermore, many Armenians do not fall under the craniometric features of the said description, hence my point that you have Pontid, Dinarid, Alpinid, Mediterranid (including Atlantomediterranid etc.), Nordid (light pigmented) etc. Armenians. Diversity is also recorded in crania, since there are brachycephalic, mesocephalic and dolichocephalic Armenians. The overwhelming majority of Armenians (almost all) are one of the above.

I also don't think there is a such a thing as "white" (just like there is no "red" or "black" for that matter), this is not scientific and you are quite correct that for most part it is an American construct (Europeans even today hardly use it, since they tend to classify themselves by nations. Although now with the emergence of the EU that is changing into a more singular "European identity"), there are basically four major racial families - Mongoloid, Negroid, Caucasoid and Austroloid. At least I stick to this classification as it seems the most plausible. The rest are just intermediary etc.

Re: How do I as an Armenian make myself feel more European?

this is embarrassing thread, please delete. Ok, Armenians are a people from the Caucuses, we are not middle eastern or islamic!! (for some reasons Armenians like to put themsevles in that category). Why would any Armenian want to identify with the region whose people have over ages and ages tried to kill and oppress us???? Armenians are Armenian, not asian, not middle-eastern, not arab. If to classify we are Caucasian and Mediterranean.

That girl is not Armenian, she is Malakan, which is a tiny Russian minority which reside in Armenia. Fact is Armenians have Mediterranean look similar to Greeks, Southern Italians, Georgians, etc.

Re: How do I as an Armenian make myself feel more European?

SARSvolta, what you'll find on the internet or in popular North American ignorant attitudes regarding Armenia is a great potential source of feeling misunderstood as an Armenian. I know because I've been through it.

If you become preoccupied with comparing Armenian faces with European ones as a basis for understanding "Armenian-ness", you will just foster an inferiority complex because you cannot think about your Armenianness without comparing it to other ethnic groups.
