    Re: Keeping CPU Clean

I agree AVG is pretty good (I use it on all my PCs). Just get the free version as they will try to get you to pay for the full version.

      Re: Keeping CPU Clean

Id recommend BitDefender, for firewall Panda although its the worst antivirus recently, now for browser, use firefox, ie has horrible security, chrome works good, try to defragment either every three months or once a month.
Do disk cleanup often and use your automatic updates.
Set your swap file to like 1.5 to 2x that of your physical ram, should help

Download the trial and when your trial runs out, search on
youtube for AVG (Your Version) Serial Code

Use the code and it'll be yours for free.

            Re: Keeping CPU Clean

You can just get it from http://free.avg.com ... note that there is the free one and then there are other versions that are not free. Make sure you are just getting the free one.

Best way to keep your OS clean is to reinstall once in a while

But how often would it be wise to reinstall?
When you reinstall don't some files still stay on your PC?

It depends...if you don't experience any issues or slowdowns, keep your AV up to date and use caution when using the web, there's little reason to reinstall...
When you do a fresh windows install, you format your C drive meaning every single file gets deleted

If you like trying new stuff and tend to often install and uninstall new apps, some files that don't get deleted would clog up your registry and slow down your PC. There are apps that help get rid of unnecessary files or clean up your registry but they are far from perfect and there would always be junk files that they wouldn't pick up. In this case, you would need to reinstall your OS more often to keep it running smoothly.
