Reading books is fine but then you are inviting other peoples' thoughts and interpretations into your mind. You don't necessarily have to "live off the grid" to be autonomous.

How do you express your autonomy? By feeling superior to women and demanding deference because of your accidental Y chromosome? By insisting on a particular view of the world and then demonizing some of the the people in it just because they don't correspond to your inner schema? That's not autonomy. That's narcissism.

Reading books critically is an excellent way of building upon existing knowledge while getting rid of those ideas and thoughts and systems that are no longer applicable or productive. Are you suggesting human beings stop writing or reading books?

Reading new, 'popular' books is like watching 'popular' movies or listening to 'popular' music. They are tailored for the "populous".

Huh, interesting. What gives you the impression that I'm in competition with other women? Or with anyone, for that matter? I'm neither in need of resources nor a husband. I have the title Dr. in front of my name. I'm in excellent health. I have two kids that I'm nuts about. I have everything I could possibly want or need at this point in my life.

My belief is that life is short. There is no such thing as reward or punishment after this life. Therefore, live a good life and whenever possible, help others to do the same. Competition is such a waste of time, IMO.

Actually, Feminists aren't nearly as focused on men's genitals as men, themselves, are. Feminists are mostly interested in exposing and fighting against social and political constructs that threaten the premise of women and men being different but equal.

I'm curious, though. Have any of you guys watched the series Mad Men? And what are your thoughts about it? It portrays American professional and personal lives at about the time of the cultural revolution.

(Oh, but then, again, some of us are allergic to "popular" culture, even if it is of the caliber of a show like Mad Men or The Wire.)
