Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

    Any impressions at the end?
As a former teacher I claim that children are most most vulnerable/affected by the adverse situation they are in, and to the propaganda they face frequently. But it almost never affects the adult.

I didn't say education is useless... unless the profession requires a degree (engineering, nursing, computer science, doctor, dentist, etc.) then education is just a pass time (like baseball). If you are self motivated, you can read literature and study arts on your own instead of following a curriculum that someone has set out for you.

I've only dated 3 Armenian women. One of them made it to the second date. The pursuing doctor had no time, the engineer was immature and wasn't finished partying (she was 26) and the singer/song writer made it clear she didn't want a serious relationship (wanted to rule the world and didn't want anyone to hold her back). I'm guessing they'll grow old with cats or marry for companionship.

Let's assume that instead of attending school to earn a degree that produces no job, you were a waitress and you took it upon yourself to learn or even took night classes. Wouldn't you have been in a better position to provide for your offspring?

Btw, I'm not belittling your decisions in life. I'm just pointing out how I see life unfold in the "wild, wild, west".

It's not easy to connect with other 6 year olds when your conversation openers have to do with the periodic table and Greek mythology.
This part made me laugh... I'm a firm believer that kids should first get lots of scrapes on their knees and elbows before they learn worldly knowledge.

Why would you assume that there's no time to play? Is it not possible to find time to both play and learn? She said their conversation openers; she didn't say they prefer to spend recess conversing (or "conversating" if you're hood or didn't take any liberal arts ) about chemistry and greek mythology.

Don't you too enjoy talking about the Greeks?

Seriously though... Have you not heard enough from Flam to think she'd be ensuring that they are growing up to be well-rounded individuals?

For some reason, I imagine her son being like the boy from "The Switch". Another feminist movie... <sigh>

OMG, there are scrapes and cuts galore over here. There are lots of trees to climb on our property, a stream wide and deep enough to wade and splash in and catch all manner of water animals using nets. We have several pets, a dog, two cats, a toad, and several other critters that they are caring for in jars with perforated lids. We have raised ducks in the past, and we grow some vegetables and flowers.

If you're implying that my kids are nerdy, that is hardly the case. They are very friendly and funny, but in ways that adults "get" more readily than other kids. But they are also very sensitive (as are most really smart kids), and sometimes easily overwhelmed. They can hang with other kids their age, but some of their tastes and interests are quirky. At age 3, my son was going around humming Coltrane's "A Love Supreme", and belting out the famous clown's aria from I Pagliachi. My daughter spends a lot of time drawing and writing short stories. She is also very into musical theater and may, some day, be a "triple threat", as they say in show-biz (sing, dance, act). I am most proud of them for being kind and compassionate toward other people and all creatures in the world.

I can tell you one thing for sure. Regardless of my strong Feminist leanings, there is nothing I would do to deprive my kids of what they need to be happy, productive members of society. There is nothing I wouldn't sacrifice for their well-being. And because I've lived a full and happy life so far, including a very wild youth, I am perfectly happy to be their mother. To me and my husband, they come first. All we do we do for them.

He does kind of look like the boy in the movie, only much cuter with big, brown eyes and eyelashes so long he could trip over them! I'm just a little bit smitten with my son. Can you tell?

No, I'm pretty much done, unless anyone feels there's anything more to add. I don't think there will ever be a meeting of the minds so no point in beating a dead horse is there?

                    Fascinating read.

Just wanted to ask what the policy usually is when a thread derails from its original topic. Does it get closed off and a new thread get started? Is it allowed to run on until it dies out? And what prompts a thread to get locked?

                    • Re: Armenian lesbians/gays

It is almost impossible to enforce "sticking to a topic" in a thread like this since the basic disagreement is always the same. Those who adhere to stigma, dogma, "the ways things have been and therefore should be", and generally the rule-driven folks. On the other hand you get the logical free thinkers that like to analyze things case by case and make a decision on what they "believe" based on what is relevant now and how things should be for the better.

The rest just happens to change by the day and the hour ... abortion, women's rights, religion, global warming, traditions, social policies, etc etc etc.

The big exception on Armenian forums is of course the Genocide as you often tend to get the Turkish propagandist whose only goal is to spread lies so those are treated much more strictly. There, the facts are facts and undisputed so it makes it easy to keep the subjects in check. The other groups that also tend to show up with a specific agenda is the those fixated on the jews and since their preaching almost always ends up being the form of just spamming propaganda, there is usually also less tolerance for those "discussions". But the rest, as long as the discussion is civil and not purely personal attacks and insults (like YouTube comments), it is usually left to run its course (if you close a thread prematurely, 14 other will open up).
                      this post = teh win.
