Ck, I have planted about 30 of those around my house, you should see them when they bloom. I have the pink, purple, red and yellow varities. They are called: iceplant lampranthus spectabilis. It's basically a groundcover plant, it spreads pretty quickly. Beautiful in the spring time. Home Depot, Lowes, etc, sells them.
THANK YOU! Finally! I'm planting those all over my yard.

p.s. At least you didn't make fun of me because I like 'playing' with the garden. (ahem!)

Heh, an avid gardener wouldn't make fun of a fellow gardener.

Awesome stuff here. I got a few questions.

I'm looking for a book, website or just tips that cover the basics of starting and running a vegetable garden. I need answers to questions such as how deep to dig, what amendments to put into the bed, how to tell when something is doing well or not (really--I don't always know!), what mistakes to avoid, and how to recognize when you've made one.

The books I've looked at are either too specific (how to grow tuberoses hydroponically, that sort of thing) or assume too much knowledge and don't tell me how to do things ("divide when ready" doesn't tell me when the plants are ready or how to divide them).

                  I like tulips and narcisus.

Also the hybrid roses that look like tiger stripes.
