What do you consider life or passion? I agree that the superficiality is floating in the air, but it's the same everywhere else. Including New York, where the focus is money and a career, as opposed to LA or San Diego where the focus is a plastic body and a car.

I cannot really pinpoint what I mean by life or passion but I cannot help be feel like I am standing at a cultural dead end when I am in San Diego. I like L.A. much more than San Diego because there is a form of life here and an attempt at culture, but I still hate L.A. I am sure New York is similar to a degree but I doubt it is to the level of L.A. and Manhattan has a great night life. Money and career are a focus because it is a city in a relatively capitalistic country that is expensive to live in. Fine. But theaters, jazz clubs, restaurants, galleries... Anyway, I would choose Paris over New York in less than a heartbeat.

I absolutely agree with you, that's one of the reason why I haven't moved from here, nor do I expect to in the nearest future. The city is full of culture and the diversity which is so essential to me, not to mention the food. It's a must for people who are interested in something other than a homey community and a dinner at home. I've had my share of nightlife, I am no longer thrilled by it. However, with the distance, fast pace of life, work, school, people's irritation, horrible traffic, expensive housing, one gets very tired. When the weekends come it's often more pleasant to stay home to recover, instead of traveling again. So you end up not utilizing the cultural advantage as often. Plus it gets very cold in New York. I love palm trees and the ocean, everything else to me is secondary.Originally posted by duskenI cannot really pinpoint what I mean by life or passion but I cannot help be feel like I am standing at a cultural dead end when I am in San Diego. Besides, raising a family in New York is a crime. I would never want to subject little kids to this environment. It's more of a young professional, students, artists city. What can be better than living in a scerene and scenic environment and traveling often to enjoy the culture at your leisure?
Is Paris similar to New York? I thought that they are incomparable cities.
