Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

The dolwnside, I think, is the pushing/selling of product. I don't think i'd be very good at selling something. It takes a certain charisma to get people to buy something from you and while I can be personable, I'm not a big seller.

The research specifics are confidential, of course, but the main project is quite public. Alliance for Cellular Signaling: basically I spend hours upon hours cloning DNA and inserting and removing genes in the cellular signaling pathway (cell 'communication' pathway) to determine how cells transmit information to eachother and 'talk' through signaling...
Yes, the Pharm sales job definately has its perks. Free company car/insurance/gas, lunch/dinner budget is nice. It is a very difficult industry to get into because they want previous business-business sales experience. I'm used to be cause ive been in the med industry among reps for the past 7 years. As for pushing the medications, its a combo of luck and selling skill. A great deal of your success depends on your territory, and the medications, (side affects, insurance coverage).

As for your project, its impressive. I was a bio major all the way to my junior year, and in the end I just could not picture myself doing what you do for the rest of my life. I like the whole communications, relationship, teamwork, aspect of business.

It's too late, say goodbye to your loved one's, there's already a contract out on you and Emil, you know too much.

        Sounds interesting.
Yeah, like neurons firing-- signal transduction pathways and the role of each gene--> protein in these pathways.

I was pre-med until the beginning of my junior year. I was all ready to take the MCATs and apply to med school but, much to the disappointment of my advisor, I decided I loved working in the lab (I worked in the neuroscience dept. at that time) and so I just continued as a bio major and have been working in a lab since I graduated. The great part of this assignment is that we're working with several universities (ucsf, stanford, utsouthwestern, ucsd, etc) so there are lots of meetings and sharing of data and interaction with others, not just straight lab work. Anyway I think it's great.

I guess I was discouraged from labwork by my little troll of a Chem102 and Organic Chemistry teacher. How are the benefits to your job?

I've been to UCSB Halloween weekend, it's pretty fun. There was this one house on the street behing Ivy that had a huge trempoline in front of it... I've never laughed so much in one evening. Drunk people bouncing around is a sight to see. In fact, even sober, bouncing around was fun. lol. . Yep. You have to know how to party and have fun, not just work all the time!

p.s. I know how to spell xxxxxoline but apparently tr@mp is blocked.

I hate hate hate hate Organic Chemistry. I don't like Chemistry very much either but organic chemostry sucks, a lot. Benefits? As in medical insurance, sick leave, vacation, personal holiday, 401K retirement plan, and paying for courses taken that benefit the work I am doing, yeah they're great.

Paying for courses taken? That's awesome considering where you went and what it cost.

I love research. Can you have a Bring your Siggie to work day? I want to see what you do.

Oh how I wish they would backtrack and pay loans for courses past! lol. Unfortunately, I have to pay all that. I meant they pay if I take classes now.

Bring your Siggie to work day? I'll have to look that up. I'll take photographs in return for being so nice. I like to have photos people have taken and frame them up black and white. Ask mr D he knows.

I'm taking a class right now and I'm developing and printing my own stuff. I can make you some prints.
Do you have a prefered subject matter?
