      My embryology professor said that smoking alone only causes lowered birth weight (to me, in private). He said the problem is that people who usually smoke when they're pregant usually have other poor health habits and that accounts for many of the problems.

      No excuses to do it of course. I certainly wouldn't.

      Also, second hand smoke has not been proven to be harmful. The original study on which all the no smoking laws were passed was don't by the EPA and they have since admitted to picking their data.
