This discussion is pretty pointless. I think it's clear that what Kerry meant is that he believes stem-cell research will result in medical advances. It is not the position of science that such is the case; it is the position of certain scientists. There have been no repeated experiments performed that indicate what the future holds for anything. Learning to recognize subtleties like that will do you all well to avoid these meaningless diversions.

With that in mind, let's remember that even if stem cell research begins, it will take generations before anything worthwhile happens. 20 years have been spent on the supposed AIDS vaccine and still nothing. If poeple think stem cells will be are elixir in a week, then you are highly mistaken.Achkerov kute.

people tend to forget that stem-cell research has the word research in it. they cant just give u stem-cells so youll recover ur spineal cord. we dont know if the scientists have the thecnology to do it now.
but this thread isnt about kerry. its just kerry's words evoked me to think about science and stuff. so this is not about kerry, its about people's faith in science. and whether one can have faith in something which is about knowing.

Well, if you ask me, if people can have faith in things that are just based on ... well... eh ... "faith" ... then they can have faith in science too! At least with science there is something backing up the faith even though it may be just as flawed as faith based on just faith.
... if that made any sensethis post = teh win.

no, because when u believe in science thats not science.
thats faith. well science is BS, because u cant know something 100% because the next experiment might turn out different. this is the fundamental rule of science. science is theories and hyphothesis which DO NOT state things. they merely suggest an explanation.
evidence might strenghen you faith, but seeing is not beleiving. you could be drugged or asleep. so science gives evidence, some evidence.

For example, I can predict that if you kick a ball with a certain force and a certain direction, to what hight it will go before falling back down to earth and how far it will travel. That predictive ability of science is what sets it apart from just "faith".this post = teh win.

the point is that science doesnt state its theories are truths. it only tries to predict things in best manner. relegion cannot be found through reason. u can only believe in it.
no one can tell you what the matrix is, you have to see it for yourself.

Yeah, scientists out there are busting their asses trying to raise money to create awareness about the necessity of stem cell research and yet they don't have a means to use these stem cells in actual research. Why, then, do you suggest they are going through all the trouble to get the stems cells? To play with them? Yes, that's it! Holy crap. Of course there is viable technology to put these stem cells to use in, ahem, research. Or else the debating and arguments and trouble to get to these valuable stem cells would all be for naught.
Spineal and thecnology? Spell check for goodness sake.

Of course not. It means I believe, as does Kerry, that with enough research and development, and with enough study and experimentation science can lead us to cures for certain diseases and can lead us to the alleviation of certain suffering for many people in the world.
