What are the consequences if you choose to save your son and kill the 100 unlucky people?

Okay maybe I should add to this. If I am anything like my mom and if she was the one saving me I dont think she would even see 100 people around nor think about consequences or what not. She would just run and save me. Of course that is how my mother works..she will forget about everything in this world when her children are in need. So my point is....Harut if you were in that situation you wouldnt think about stuff like that. It happenes in a second you cant stop time....

By the way that was a silly question Harut the consequence is that 100 people are died or your child is died.

Just pick one and make gevo happy!

This situation is extremely unrealistic, firstly the train should be slowing down and even stopping since the bridge is up, thats how it works, they dont just speed through hoping to god that the guy puttin the bridge down isnt asleep/retarded. Secondly what the hell is the kid doing walking around in those areas, and how the hell do you get stuck in gears, what is he a piece of cloth or something?
But nonetheless thats probably not your point, i have to say i would definately save my son, no thoughts about it. id probably get my ass in prison for the next 30+ years but id still without a thought save my son.

I think sacrifising his kid is his punishment, 100 is a lot more then one and plus they got families too.............I'm just sayin this, if it was my kid.....better hope your not on the train.

Dammit, I have faith and Gevo keeps saying "possibly" so I'd save my kid and hope that the hundred people have life vests in that train and survive.

However, if I didn't have faith and if my whole family consisted of just me and the kid, I'd lower the bridge and then jump off.

His sone is having fun being a kid, and decides to go in the engineering room, the boy is about 9 years old, and the father can see the kid still from his vantage point. As the father is allerted that a passenger train (which is carrying over 100 people) needs topass the train, he looks to call his son to be with him so he canshow his son the controls. As he looks through the plasti-glas walls, he see that his son is stuck in the gearing, and neither one of them can hear eachother. Now, by this time enough time has passed that the train is to close to stop, and if the bridge is not lowered, the train will crash, possibly killing up to a 100 people onboard. The father, from his vantage point can see both his son, and the train which is allready dangerously close, he has absolutely, and exactly two choices. Safe his son and not lower the bridge, possibly sending over a 100 people to there graves, or letting his son be crushed and die and agonizing and dreadful death right infront of his eyes. The father knows what is more right to do, and with no further hesitation, with tears spilling downhis cheeks, and ofcourse you can only image the way he felt. he lowers the bridge, and the bridge just barely touches down when the train passes,,,.. as he looks down to the train he can see the passengers going about their business, drinking coffee, reading the paper etc... he looks at them and raises his hand in rage and yells, to no prevail, "How could you people just sit there, i just sacrificed my son for you!!".. now.. the question i have to you people is, whic would yo have chosen... and again you have absolutely and precisely these the two options that the father was faced with...

Which would it be, and with what rational can you send either your son, or 100 people to death?
I would save my son, but not before I proceeded to look for a churro stand to buy my son a churro, because its important when you are rescuing your son, to have a churro. In the case of the 100 people, it would be expensive, as the cost/benefit analysis shows.

No, it's not silly. If you were to kill 100 people you would probably be in jail for the rest of your life. Thats something to consider too.

But if you loose your son you can always make another one

So what I'm saying is that I would probably do the same thing the bridge operator did.

But maybe your right. Maybe I wont have time to think about stuff like that and save the boy

I would save my son... that's for sure... but in rest of my life I would think that there was a possibility to save others’ live too... anyway, I would never sacrifice my son's life for 100 people... and I wouldn't care about consequences...
But as Harut said “I just hope that I never have to make a decision like that in my life” …

Interesting, how we become greedy in a sense. Though yes i understand that "who are those people to me" is what comes to mind, i know you love your son, and another phrase comes to mind with that... "i wouldnt trade the world for you".. so, if there is any way in explainin this, why is it that your son is worth more than 100 or so people, plus the families of each who will be affected as well??? I understand this decision is very hard, probably amongst the hardest thing i can think of to decide between... well.. i have to go now. but.. explain if you can, How would you rationalize this decision to anybody??
How do you hurt a masochist?
