I still don't get it how we make printmakings...you've got a special machine where you "print" various images on one big paper and adjust the tint and everything?

No dear. Printmaking is the word to describe the whole process of printing. In Printmaking there is litho, etching, waterless, silkscreen..etc. A printmaker can love litho and only do litho. But another artist can love etching and only do etchings. As a printmaker you learn the verious processes and which ever one you are comfortable and or good at..you continue to do such work until you master it. Like I promised I will find an article and post it.

It's commonly known as a KALA,than a lily.That was my point.

Fine art printmaking is based on the concept of creating a master plate, known as the matrix. This is used to transfer the image onto paper. Nowadays printmaking is an art form that has many subdivisions, each of which is an art form in its own right: etching, lithography, linocut, etc. The printmaking process is generally a complex one, using a variety of different techniques, and medium, depending on the type of print. The artist creates different surface textures, color effects and forms, just as in painting, producing a unique work of art, defined by the artist’s style and personality.

Most times the process of transferring or printing the image can be repeated numerous times, creating editions of the same image. Sometimes each individual print is retouched or added to afterwards, making it unique or one-of-a-kind. Other techniques involve using the same matrix but different combinations of inks and colors, also creating unique works(monoprints and mezzotints are examples of such works).

Thank you sleuth its very kind of you to post that. I should have done it. But I wanted you guys to read the site, there is a lot of great information. Oh, and thank you for the comment as well.

I got into this..well here is the story. Two years ago I applied for work study in the art department. I got a call from the printmaking lab and the professor told me if I wanted to work in the tool crib, where all the printmaking supplies are. I told her I dont know what printmaking is so she explained it to me. I said yes "..oo wow...ooo"..but I had noooooo idea what she was talking about. Anyways when I went to the studio, I saw all the work and from that point on I was hooked. I worked for the printmaking department for 2 years and took the class at the same time. Now the professor made me a TA so I have the keys to the studio. I can go and print anytime I want. I'm usually there on saturdays and sundays printing away. Which is totally cool.
