    What a fabulous thing to be in my inbox this glorious Monday morning!
    Kaiser is giving healthcare to these pooor poor folks, yet I who have been an employee for about 20 months am classified as "on-call" when I'm not really on call because my dept doesn't have the money to give me benefits.
    I'd love to know how this makes any sense other than the fact that they'd get NO publicity for giving the insignificant employees, like me, benefits.


    Kaiser Offers Aid to Hotel Workers: HMO Will Provide Health Insurance if Dispute Isn't Settled

    Kaiser Permanente’s decision to extend health care coverage to 3,500 locked-out San Francisco hotel workers and their families for two months if the bitter labor dispute is not resolved before benefits expire Dec. 1 received significant press coverage, including the SF Chronicle and Associated Press.

    "The notion that we would have 4,300 families affected by this lockout conceivably lose their health insurance is absolutely inconsistent with the values of this city,'' said San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.”It is good to have a partner like Kaiser doing the right thing on behalf of these locked-out workers.''

    The name "Gavin Newsom" did not make me like this news very much, not because you aren't getting any benefits.

      You know, in Kaiser's defense, you aren't supporting a family. How old are you anyway, Siggie? I'm still covered by Kaiser through my parents, and will be until I turn 25.

        I'm 23... I'll be covered until June. That's not the point though. I'm not the only "on-call" though. The point is that Kaiser offers FULL benefits to their employees full or part-time. Part-timers have to work a minimum of 20 hrs a week and they get benefits. The RAs in our dept are required to work a minimum of 20 hrs a week, yet we don't get benefits because they've classified us as on-call. There are 5 of us right now and 7 on average. The turnover is insane, I've seen 6 people leave in the time I've been here. There's only 1 person left here that was here when I was hired.
        If KP can afford to offer healthcare to 3500 people for 3 months, they can afford to give 7 of their OWN employees benefits too.
