Yeah, no. I don't believe that we each have something we're destined to do or whatever. We are all in control of our own lives. I wasn't born to fulfill a certain role. There are thigns I'm good at or better suited for, but that's about it. A large part of who we are is shaped by our experiences and we emerge from them different people. Some of us are problem-solvers, others are perfectionists, other yet are idealists, etc We're all different.

xxxxty things happen to people and it's hard to accept that it happened either because we in some way contributed to its occurance or because of chance. It's much easier to believe that we suffer for a reason.

In World news today, Jesus Christ has killed many Iraqi's because they are Muslim and not Christian.

This Iraqi soldier dead on the ground above was a great man and did a lot of community work, he was also a nurse for children with cancer in Iraq. The man was forced to go into the war and believed that karma would not let him die, unfortunately he is now dead. Reports say It was JC's fault, JC was infuriated at the man because he was a muslim and was born and raised this way, it was all his fault.

Allah intends to fight back and kill many people that are Christian in other worlds. Allah was quoted to say "It is thier fault for not believing in me even if they were born into a Christian family, for this I will take thier lives"

Omniscient however is neither Christian nor Muslim so he cannot be slain.

i feel a lot of rebellion and some hostility and a whole lot of sarcasm...you can mock and deny all you want; all that says is that you're a person who chooses to mock and think the way you think.

I have to say that I absolutely do beleive everyone is destined to do something. And the post before this one, yeah karma gets you on the right track, and your right you dont know the big picture. But there is a big picture. Destiny does not conflict w/ free choice in any way.

Man, you guys sure are great at making sense. Destiny doesn't conflict with free choice? What can you choose? To not fulfill your destiny? Wouldn't that mean it isn't your destiny? Can destiny really be contingent? I'm just curious as to what makes you people believe these things. It's like people see certain limited patterns in events and then assume that these patterns will always hold. When they don't, they say things like "well, with our finite knowledge, we cannot see it, but the pattern really did hold." Really? How the heck do you, with your finite knowledge, know that?

I'd hardly call karma a law of nature. Only highly social creatures have any incentive whatsoever to behave in an altruistic manner. Most of nature is cruel and brutal, and the rewards go to those who are the most cruel and brutal. Even with humans, this is often true. The only way you can possibly believe in karma is to say that rotten people are punished in the afterlife and good people rewarded. Let's face it, that's something you want to be true. There is no evidence that it is actually is true.

Anyway, I really can't think of any major beliefs I hold that I cannot prove. I'll hold temporary beliefs for functional purposes, like believing I can get that hot chick in the corner of the room, but that's about it.

The funny thing is that's exactly how I do it.

I like to think of it terms of synchronicity rather than karma, like I said, Karma is the "simple" way to go about it.
