Q: What author gave us the answer to that question?

Q - What is the average airspeed velocity of a (flying) sparrow pulling a coconut on a string?

Hint - the answer can be phrased in terms of a question

BTW - 42 was indeed the correct answer...

              A. Isn't a coconut too heavy for a sparrow? (it's in terms of a question too )

              Q. Why was 42 the answer to life, the universe and everything?

A: The computer in the book The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy which was created to answer the question said so. (It's a great book. I highly recommend it)

                  A - could it be:
                  Frank Zappa:

L.A. in the summer of '69
I went downtown and bought me some wine
Oh, I drank it down under the table
I said: "Watch me now, I'm gonna eat the label!"
                  Well I'm a wino man
                  Don't you know I am?

                  36, 24, hips about 30
I seen a fine lady and I started talkin' dirty
Boy, she looked over at me and she raised her thumb
She said: "Jam down the road, you bum-ba-bum-bum"
                  I'm a wino man
                  Don't you know I am?

                  I went to the country
                  And while I was gone
I lost control of my body functions
                  On a roller-headed lady's front lawn
I'm so ashamed, but I'm a wino man
                  I can't help myself

I've been drinkin' all night till my eyes got red
Stumbled on the gutter and busted my head
Bugs in my zoot suit, been scratchin' like a dog
I can't stand no water, and I stink like a hog
                  Give me a five-dollar bill
                  And an overcoat too
                  Give me a five-dollar bill
                  And an overcoat too
A five-dollar bill and an overcoat too
                  A five-dollar bill and a Florsheim shoe

Nah...(did the rules say anything about having to answer truthfully? - or fully so?) I'm really into (drinking/collecting/talking about etc etc - wine - yeah in a big way....thus winoman...(and the song of course...)

                  soooo

Q - What did the only reference to earth in The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy say? (easy - for Siggie at least!)

Oh and Cat....don't discount (some of us) "old" (Ok over 40...not as old as you might think...) folks - listen up girl - you might learn something (worthwhile/useful...or not...) eh?

Oh and the (correct) question to answer the question concerning the airspeed velocity of a laden (with coconut) sparrow is to respond by asking if I meant an African swallow or a European swallow (a la Monty Python and the Holy Grail) ! yeah ...you had to see it I guess....(and you have to see it if you have not already...)

A: That it's an insignificant planet in the way of bypass that must be built? It's inhabitants are decendants of apes, facinated by digital watches, and they nailed one man to a cross for suggesting they all be nice to one another.
(Let's drop the Hitchhiker's Questions, so others can participate)

Q: Have you had enough rain or do like it? Why or why not. (For those in LA)

*edit - reread your question. The guide itself said "harmless" before Ford's edit and "mostly harmless" after.
