Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

I usually get my supplements from Trader Joe's. They were out of one of the supplements I needed, so I went to costco, and and bought Nature Made.

I take flax seed oil, omega 3, for the most part. I also dilute flax seed meal, with water and drink it. All of which I get from Trader Joes. I was looking into borage oil/omega 6, which Traders Joes doesn't carry, but I read that it has too many side-effects, and the Evening Primrose Oil is a much better substitute.

I used to take coral calcium for a short while, and then there was this one thing called Supreme Greens, with MSM..was it?...Anyways, I didn't feel too confident with either so I stopped taking them.

    And thanks for the info!

Where can I find those brands?

    Have you heard of Rite-Care?

Trader Joe's is so-so. They just started popping up around here.

Flax seed should supply you with some Omega 3 & 6, as it is naturally occuring in it. Otherwise, you can get 6 from borage oil. I have yet to hear of negative side effects to any essential fatty acids, so if you remember where you read this, do let me know. I used to take fortified flax powder, myself. Threw a tablespoon into a couple of protein shakes a day.

Coral calcium is another one of those ridiculous scams. You can add this to your rules of thumb, lol: If they need infomercials to sell it, it's crap (except the George Foreman machine....god bless that little bald headed bastard). I have yet to find the concrete studies where Dr. Barefoot drew the conclusion that coral calcium is the most absorbable form of calcium. To date, the most proven form is calcium citrate, which absorbs up to 8 times better then the poorest form, calcium carbonate (<-- I mean....that's the stuff CHALK is made of, for Christ's sake). Calcium hydroxyapatite (especially microcrystalline) is another form that has gained a lot of supporting evidence over the last few years. Interesting structure & reasoning why it absorbs so well, though supplements with this form are a little scarce, yet. Also, any good calcium supplement will contain magnesium in a 2:1 ratio (the mag will create a "pathway", for lack of a better term, for the calcium), and vitamin D to aid in the uptake of the cal-mag.

Green blends are good in general. They will help alkalize your body (which, a lot of research suggests will help prevent and cure a MULTITUDE of health issues, including cancer =| ), and are chock full of antioxidants. Again, there will be variances in quality, and diversity of the greens. Dr. Hagiwara's Green Magma, and Magma Plus are good ones, as well as Garden of Life's Perfect Food. Not sure why the MSM was in your formula. That's primarily for regrowing connective tissue in the joints, as well as lubricating the joints (your omegas will help with this, too), and acting as a bit of an anti-inflammatory. There is also some evidence that it can prevent sinus problems, and even some tumors. =|

I have not heard of Rite-Care, but I just checked out their website. I can't say I've heard of any of the brands they carry, and there only seem to be 3 or 4 of them from the quick browesing I did. Don't you guys have like a Whole Foods, of Fruitfull Yields around there? Or even a GNC. Some type of nutritional supplement store?? Supplements are a lot more popular on the west coast, so you guys should have better access then we do. Or if you want, I can PM you our website.

I usually look at this site for info on supplements.

It does mention health risks that may be associated with Borage Oil.

I'm in the same boat with Glow here. I used to have a raging six pack, but it's been a couple years. I'm still very lean and healthy, however. I've just lost muscle mass. My strength training at this point consists mostly of plyometrics, which results in nicely toned, but not exactly rippled, abs. I'll get back to the weights at some point. I've been getting pushed around a bit on the basketball court lately, especially in the post, so I clearly need to add some size.

I don't think "6-packs" and the "obesity numbers" have much correlation. In other words, if you are obese then you probably don't have a six pack but just because one doesn't have a six pack doesn't make one obese.

Is there a weight problem in this society? Sure. But is there also a weight problem problem? Absolutely! I think people are too worried about their weight problems. This is not to say obesity is not a serious thing because it is. But constantly chasing a six pack and trying (sometimes in dangrous ways) to be in that 2% ain't that healthy either.
              this post = teh win.

Good question. I'd like to know who they asked and how.

I think people are getting fat because of insane schedules and fast food.

Jews are 2% of the population. Do you think it is they who are the ones with the 6 pack?

                      Hmmmm....

                      Possible Side Effects

One of the PAs identified in borage seed oil--the unsaturated PA, amabiline--has been shown in very high doses to damage the liver. It may have cancer-causing properties as well. Just how much of this toxic substance is present in borage seed oil--if any at all (it's measured in parts per billion)--remains unclear.
So then, they're saying very large amounts of PAs are bad for you. That's fine and dandy, but....they have no idea if there's any in borage oil at all, let alone the type of mass dosage necessary for health problems. Yet they're saying there are good possibilities of it being dangerous? How do you go from there may be none, to there may be high enough amounts to hurt you? I love when "science" does guess work like this. Plus, they're referring to borage oil specifically, if that's going to be your source for Omega-6, not Omega-6 all together.

This is not unlike the BS "higher mortality rate" link to people doing over 200 i.u. of vitamin E per day, or that crap "study" about the negative effects of kava-kava on the liver. You can twist and bend the results of any study to "give" you the outcome you want.

Ahhh yes. Real foods. Those were the days. But they stopped making that some time ago. It was replaced by real CRAP!! Unless you buy everything organic, most of the natural nutrients and enzymes are being destroyed in your food today by pesticides, herbicides, growth hormones, antibiotics, etc. And even if they weren't, the most perfect diet still wouldn't get you near what you need nutrients wise. For example, let's say you had no problem meeting the USRDA for your vitamins and minerals. Well...the problem with that is those guidelines were created pre-WWI with little to no research, and haven't been updated SINCE, in spite of aaaaaall the research and data we've gathered since then.

As for a disclaimer.....what for? I've either stated open facts available to anyone (if they're willing to look for it), or clearly stated info that isn't 100% "proven" is based on ongoing studies and research, not passing them off as fact. But if it makes you feel better....
