Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!


2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

    slight correction and update...

    It was a La Mission Haut Brion that I opned last night (not La tour...I have several "La Tour" one thing or another wines - all first rate BTW - that I mixed it up)....anyway the wine was good - but way to young (I should have known) - even after decanting for 2-3 hours it didn't "show" as well as it should have - still was very nice...and luckily I also opened a very nice 97 Mondavi Oakville Cab (drinking great...oak [fancy that] settled down considerably since last I opened one - perhaps 2 years ago...), and lets see - a very very nice 99 Hammacher Pinot Noir from Oregon (delicious - what can I say - practically gave all the guys wood it was so sexy!) - and lets see - a 94 Warres Vintage Port (quite nice - but no comparrison to - the star * ! - a 2000 Grahams Vintage Port - yeah! Even so young this port was absolutly rocking! Superb concentrated fruit that exploded out of the glass into ones mouth and coursed right through your head and down to your toes! - and a finish that lasted forever (I'm so glad I have about 2 cases of this stuff!) - I've actually been drinking this port since it was first delivered after having purchased it as a future 3-4 years ago...and man has it (already) improved....actually took a bottle of this to Turkey 2 years ago where it held up to the heat and drank very well...and we managed to nurse it pretty much for the entire 2 weeks! Finishing the last of it on our last night in Ankara....still as good as it drank then - no comparisson to how its currently drinking...it will be very difficult for me to keep my hands off this...(and let it age properly...so good right now!)

        ? I don't at all get your point...what is wrong with French wine? - it is (on average and perhaps specifically as well) the best wine in the world. Oh and Port is from Portugal, Mondavi is Californian and Oregon is well - in the USA in case you didn't know.

          i had a $300 bottle of wine at this very upper french restaurant and i will never forget the taste of that WINE!!!

              Nothing wrong with French wine....I also like it. And it's without doubt the best wine ever no matter how hard others try.
              Keep trying you won't get a Beaujolais in your vineyards if they aren't on french soil.

                  Yeah you have to experience it to (truly) understand it - like most anything really...you don't recall the wine/varietal/vintage or anything do you? Wines don't necessarily have to be very expensive to be good you know (but it helps!) - and actually (and I'm not meaning to burst your bubble here, as I believe that you had the "experience" as it were nd I'm sure the wine was very fine, but) you should know that most restaraunts - particularly most fancy (French particularly - but otherwise) restaraunts really jack up prices - sometimes 100-150% - yeah - it can be criminal sometime. You don't know how many wines I've seen on restaraunt lists that they are asking $200-500 - that I have in my celler where I paid (well) less then 1/2 - even 1/3 the price - yeah.

                    Yeah Ok - i was wondering. A couple of things however - Yes French understand terrior (and proper food pairings) - and the history of wine growing and the optimization are there - so many of the very finest wines certainly come from Frrance - and Bordeaux and perhaps even an argument can be made for the Southern Rhone (Cheateneuf du Pape - my fave BTW) - having the highest concentration of truly great wines - but do not discount the ability of other regions of the world to match this quality and even exeed it in some (many) cases - as well there are varietals that are grown outside of France that are unique and worthwhile in there own rights - quite so. Barolo/Barberesco (Nebilio grape) and Brunello (Sangiovese Robusto grape) both come to mind - as do Spanish Piroat wines (a blended wine from the only wine region outside of Italy to be recognized by the Romans for superior qulaity wines! yeah - these regions produce unique - world class wines that very much reflect their terroir and are unmatchable by any other regions. Also in the "New World" there is some fantastic wine producing going on - NApa Valley Cabs, Oregon Pinots, Washinton State Merlots - each region can produce many examples of wines that are unequaled anywhere else - or at least that are on a par with the finest Bordeaux - or in the case of pinot from Oregon, California Coast, Caraneros etc - better - on average - then the average (but not the best Burgundys (which will set you back 3 ben Frnaklins and change per bottle at a minimum - damn Japanese...)...anyway - FYI Beaujolais is really not a fine wine in any of these categories - though on good years and if sourced from recognized vinyards can drink quite nicely. And while I know many French do not recognize the existance of terrior outside of France - well this is a bit shortsighted (and incorrect) - but hommage should certainly be given to the French for their passion for excellence and recognition of the finer things (in most all areas) - hail to the French! (really - I mean it)

                      Understand your points - but both not true. Your statements are much too draconian. Sure Belgian beers (ales) are unquestionably recognized as some of the very finest - no doubt. But they are of a particualr style - there are others of equal merit and there is the matter of preference. The world of beer is so varied and awesome really - can't even begin here - take my word for it. And with the great many very high quality microbrews in the states now - we really take second place to no one in terms of availability of the finest beers. And truly great beer takes a backseat to only the very finest wines IMO.
