I understand - I was making a joke - sorry...Originally posted by SiggieWino- sure it was a good idea. Just because some uninformed and closed minded people don't agree with research on that, doesn't make it less worthwhile and meaningful work.
Hm - thats not what D ick Cheny told me...perhaps ck can find a job somwhere where they produce replacement equipment for the stuff they are using up out in the desert...Originally posted by AnonymouseThat is the price one pays for working in a government funded institution, especially when the government's economy isn't doing too well either.

Meeting got postponed until after next week. I think worst case scenario we still have a surplus of enough money to hold us for another year.Originally posted by SiggieHow was the meeting? I don't know what exactly you studied but I sure know that Great Britain needs scientists. They are begging for them, especially medics and biochems..
Get your behind over there and you'll be greatly rewarded.

I may need that sooner than I thought... I have a meeting with the head of my lab at noon. Crap. So it goes. Maybe it's not such a bad thing? It'll give me a chance to think a bit about where to go next and a less stressful- more financially rewarding job is always a good thing to look forward to.Originally posted by GSTracer05Don't worry. You always have Medtronic as last resort. It's only the world's leading manufacturer of medical devices. I'd be more than happy to put in a good word for you ladybug.

My last day of work is June 24th. I must say, this may have been the nicest most complimentary laying off in the history of people being laid off. Not only was I given compliments for my work (120% apparently) waaay beyond what I thought I have done here so far, I was also assured that excellent recommendations and personal emails to other labs at Caltech in addition lab heads at other jobs I apply to are something I should expect as they plan to do everything they can to help me find somewhere to work and are very sad to see me go. At least the severence payment will pay loan bills for a while anyway. Not only that, I was told that of all the people let go they are quite upset to see me leave and they wanted very badly for me to stay as my level of work quite surpasses the work the others who are leaving have done so far. I'm impressed with myself, but also, well, this sucks!
Ahh well, ever the greedy one I hope to get a job that pays more, and soon.
