  • Give ckBejug a job!

Alright folks, this just in... Our entire Alliance group, that would be 12 people at Caltech (most of whom have families and kids, two of whom are pregnant right now), and I have no idea how many people at UCSF, Stanford, UTSW, and UCSD is royally fcuked. We did not get our NIH grant renewed for as much money as we asked for. In other words, we got 2 million dollars for 3 years, when we needed 12 million. OH MY GOD, I need to find a new job. I am freaking out and yet can't put into words how much. F**k!!! Looks like I may be going back to school sooner than I thought.

      F*ck! I'm sorry Christine!
Is NIH low this year or did they just not give you the amount needed for some other reason?

Wino- sure it was a good idea. Just because some uninformed and closed minded people don't agree with research on that, doesn't make it less worthwhile and meaningful work.

I'm thinking of selling my soul to the tech company. Hours are what they are, no need to go over, nice benefits, more pay, and no worrying about grants and such. Yep, biotech companies are looking very good right now.

I got some chores for you to do around the house if you're interested.

Other than that - I need a job too.

Well I still have a job anyway so I don't have to do your chores just yet.

I don't know but the letter Dubya comes to mind. Jack@$$. Anyway since our lab is one of the more productive one's in the project we are staying, I just don't know how long it's going to last. 2 million $ is not very much money. I'll know more after we have a meeting on Wendesday. As for what I'd do next, the head of our lab is also very well-known and influential in the molec. bio. field so worst case scenario I still have a rocking recommendation letter for grad school or another job. Perhaps this will lead to a chance to work at Amgen, which I would love to do.

                  That sucks.

That is the price one pays for working in a government funded institution, especially when the government's economy isn't doing too well either. Can't you apply to private places and biotech companies? You mentioned it up top, now follow through.
