For a long while, my father would go to work all day, then come home cook the dinner, then do the dishes, and, throughout the week, keep up with laundry and cleaning and gardening. And not once did he complain.

Originally posted by violette829Wow, you just turned centuries of hard work, blood, sweat, and tears into child's play. Tell me this, do you live alone? Do you have children to take care of? Do you do ALL of the housework at home? I bet if I spoke to your mother, she'd LAUGH and then ultimately..cry...at what you just said. I seriously have no time to sit and argue about what you just said and I wish I'd never read it..but you, my friend...are INSANE!
"What do you read, my lord?"
"Clichés, clichés, clichés."

But as I said, anyone can still chose to live like the Amish but that's a personal choice. It doesn't HAVE to be like that.this post = teh win.

Raising kids is a very tough job. But believe me, if you've never lived on your own, doing "house chores" ain't exactly rocket science and definitely doesn't take all day - everyday. Sure you'll spend one or two days a month on cleaning the whole place but on a day to day basis, there's nothing to it.

Yes, in living alone I also discovered that maintaining a place is no big deal. Granted I had an apartment and that's different from having a 2500 sq. ft. house. But everything doesn't need to be done everyday. You have clean the bathroom day, you have clean the balcony day, you have laundry day, you have vaccuum day, you have dust day... And a lot is a life style thing. Keeping the kitchen clean as you use it saves you plenty of grief. Et cetera.

wino, of course, most of us are young and unmarried.
Even with todays technology, keeping a house in order takes time and energy thats equal to that of a real "job". Plus we arent just talking about the house work, we are talking about being a stay at home mom - key word being mom. Do not tell me that being home with children (especially young ones) is not work. Be serious.
Welcome back, Vi.I've been gone too.

Welcome back Vi and Armo Barbi!
Yeah - plug kids into the equation and the amount of time and work expand expotentially. And again it depends on number of rooms/bathrooms and such...not to mention yard etc. All I know is that our to do list is never accomplished and we are often working our tail off for much of our free time (or just choosing to let things go). We both work and have to take kids to activities nearly every day. And I am the one who does the cooking and I do my share of the cleaning as well - often dishes, luandry, cleanup around the house - not as much as my wife does - but I'm certainly involved - and well - its work - and with a family it is certainly non-trivial and should not be made light of.

Haven't signed on for a while but I'll be sure to reply to some of the posts especially Sip's reply to my last post. If you think only the first 6 months are the only "really" important time in the childs life then you truly are the "dumb" one or should I say not too clear in the head. I'm going to punish my child if he/she doesn't get a job by the time he/she is 2 years old as I would expect a lot already from him/her and he/she is ready for everything and doesn't need round the clock parenting anymore. Anyway, sorry sometimes people that cannot see things frustrate me and amaze me at the way people think these days. Also peoples thoughts on the length of time it takes to do certain things was very interesting. Spiral I will get back to your post also. It's 5 am though so my mind is somewhere else right now.
