My Dad was in the military. That was his main career. Flew KC-135 "Stratotankers" ... I believe they're called. Part of S.A.C. before it went away ... I think. Finished his service way before Gulf Storm or anything after that. I used to want to be in the USAF until I decided that killing other ppl for whatever/whoever’s cause is never worth it.
The air shows he used to take us to as well as the PX for tax free stuff was cool when my sister and I were growing up.

The military isn't a bad job with all the benefits. It was actually a lot better when my dad was still in as they would give you 50% of your "base pay" for retirement. Correct me if I am wrong but I think they are down to 25% or even lower depending on individual status and which branch. Plus even my dad could be called back to duty although not likely ...

I've had a number of (Armenian) relatives in the armed forces - including an Uncle who was a marine in WWII involved in the Island campaign against Japan - believe he got a Purple Heart (not certain). Another Armenian relative (more recently - perhaps 15-20 years ago) served at least one tour (perhaps more) with the Air Force in Turkey (at his request) - using the time to tour Armenian sites in Eastern, Southern and Central Anatolia and visit villages (around Sivas/Divrik) where his (and our) family was from.
