Who is gonna spend $600 for the complete PS3 system in November?
Who is gonna spend $600 for the complete PS3 system in November?
I could but I don't know if I will do so especially if at that price there isn't a game included ... which is unfortunately the way it has gone as of late. The Nintendo Wii has the best price point to entertainment ratio of all three systems. I think that'll be my first "Next Gen" system. The Red Steel game looks super tight. So does the new Mario Galaxies and Warioware Inc. games. I bet Mario party is gonna be insane on the new system. I feel happy to go back to Nintendo in all honesty as I think they are really pushing console games in the right direction for interface interaction and attempting to appeal to a larger demographic. The last system I bought from Nintendo that wasn't a handheld was the N64. Skipped the Gamecube, but now I'm back.
Ani2 ... I don't think I was thinking about it too shallow(??)! I mean how "deep" was the thought process tree/root from what she had originally stated. Anyway I think that you still believe that being outside and playing old analog games is somehow better than playing an equal amount of time on electronic interactive media. I could tell you about a game for the GBA that has a solar cell built into the cartridge that detects if a player is outside or not. The more sun power you have the larger your visible playing area becomes (your in a dungeon!), but imo it is making a rather feeble attempt at getting gamers outside lol. Still going for a moderate four hour hike will not challenge and develop your critical thinking abilities as much as the same amount of time playing a puzzle or game be it electronic or not. If going outside and playing in the sunshine, which ultimately could be worse for your health in the long run (unless you wear a good sunscreen ), was directly linked to making the mind sharper then we would already know about it and would treat Alzheimer’s with sunbathing or cross country running.
Look we all know how "Bobo" Ani is and being a Bobo means that anything not completely organic is bad for us on many, many different levels, right? Well I agree with what you stated about substituting one outside recreational activity with an indoor entertainment activity. The way I see it is outside activities = good for physical and "spiritual" (I don't know a better way to describe the good way being outside makes you feel! spiritual/natural whatever) health and interactive electronic entertainment = great for boosting and improving mental sharpness (more than anything), hand-eye coordination (also can be developed outside) and depth perception (same). My whole point is we shouldn't demonize video games because we "think" that they are somehow not as good for us as more traditional recreational activities such as sports ... that's really being presumptuous and without any evidence to support such a claim I think we create a convenient scapegoat. Now that’s shallow … blaming any societal woes on video games is really indicative of reaching for a simple solution when in fact the socio-political problems we have in this country are waaaaayyyy more deeply rooted in broad sociological concepts and principles like the “family unit” and taking individual responsibility.
The benefits of playing videogames are garnering respect, be it the surgeon playing monkey ball before surgery as a warm up, or an aviator using a flight sim as an inexpensive training tool, from professional communities for their ability to improve their staff with a simple and cost effective tool, I ‘m basically fending off a modern day witch hunt. The reason why we’d be a “third world nation” if we didn’t have our ps2 is because of how crappy the American educational systems are not because kids play video games. You could infer from Ani that w/o our PS2s we wouldn’t have any intelligence at all, right? Lol There was also a great article in both Time and Discover magazines in the past three months that applaud the benefits of playing video games with empirical evidence to support their claims. All this has to be taken as "play moderately" imo. I play around two hours a day max and watch about the same amount of TV/Internet. I also go for an hour+ walk almost every day and would use a bike to get to work if I didn't commute 50 miles round trip a day. So anyhoo lets not "villanize" or demonize videogames especially in the bloody E3 thread!
