Esther: how big is the armenian community in germany? i think that because of all of the diversity in america that armenians feel like they have to stay together.
Note: if you speak english long enough, it is easy to lose your accent. i did not start learning english until i was about 6 or so and i had a heavy accent throughout most of primary school but now i hide my accent to the point where almost no one can hear it. also, english (spoken with an american accent) is very nasal so if you speak for a long time without stopping, your throat will ache a lot. You should try reading english out loud for an hour or so and see how your throat feels.
P.S. you should hear my french.
Well, once I talked to an older Hay, I think he was about 60 years old, and he told me 10 years ago, he drove from Cologne to Frankfurt to see another Hay, which is really far away for German circumstances.
So the Armenian population has increased within the years (there are about 42000 Hays in Germany), but of course we cannot really keep up with the Turks(1 912 200 !!!)
How does that work? Not caring and ignoring it just makes the offender think that it's ok to go around and be racist towards others. It's like a trouble making child. If you do not set him/her straight that what he/she is doing is wrong then that child will do it again and again. Ignoring it will solve nothing but, instead, will allow it to fester and grow. In this case, i am very guilty of not saying anything and i take full blame and responsability for it but i will make sure that it never happens again.
On the contrary if you say something they might want to start a fight with you. Ignoring them makes them get angrier & they move on I still think you did the right thing. Աբրէէս!
If your a Left Handed person like me, you are truly unique.
Germany is multi-cultural. In most major cities there are Turks, people from ex-Yugoslav countries, Greece, Poland, Russia, China, Japan, Korea, Arab countries, Iran, as well as xxxs. At least that's how I thought it was.
Yep, you are right^^ But the multi-cultural thing is still very young, because it started in the seventies, when there weren't enough employees in Germany. So the German government made contracts with other countries, which sent "Gastarbeiter", which means as much as "guest employee".
So there is still a strong border between The Germans and outandish people. People in my age grow up with it, but even I recognized when I was younger, how the number of those people increased. There are two mosques in my home town, and I must say I live in the middle of nowhere. 15 years ago there wasn't even a single one. It frightens Germans, some of them are really suspicious, esecially in our time, where there are so many people unemployed.
In bigger cities there is this multi-cultural flair, but the Germans attitude toward outlandish people is different compared to Americans I guess^^
Well, I’m not trying to convince you, I’m simply expressing my opinion (just like you) on different aspects of the issue, which is quite similar to yours with the difference that I call it by its name(racism) with no reserve but you don’t.
At some point of our lives, we are all being racist. And the racism I was talking about earlier (that you also mentioned with a different label) is nothing to be ashamed of since it does not harm anybody. At this moment, just forget that cliché-ridden definition of racism.
A healthy and civilized racism, as long as it serves our own national interests is vital and necessary.
@Esther: You should see France, because I've heard that there are also many many Turks living there, from what I've heard...
@Lucin: So, you're saying that a little "racism" is good (when I say racism, I mean understading the difference between your culture and other cultures and favoring your culture more) as long as it doesn't get out of control, right?
@Esther: You should see France, because I've heard that there are also many many Turks living there, from what I've heard...
էլիա: i talk to a lot of native french people and they say that the french really like the armenians (even french immigrants in LA can recognise armenians and treat them like brothers and sisters) and really dislike the Turkish people for some reason. also, armenians have a large community there and heavily influence the French in the bigger cities like Marseille and Paris.
